PLEASE SHARE: The news you’ve all been waiting for. As you may well know by now, we are about to enter into a construction project that will be the most disruptive we have seen. Thankfully, when it is completed, we will not have to deal with it for at least another 25 years. The last time we had to reconstruct the square was 1997.

The first phase of the project will be the complete removal and replacement of the concrete at the intersection of SR 14 and 43, This portion of the project is scheduled to begin on March 23rd and continue for about 100 days. It will most certainly be the most painful to get through.
Upon completion of the 14 and 43 intersection, they will begin the resurfacing portion of the project, this portion of the project will not be near as disruptive as the first phase. The resurfacing portion of the project will take place at night between the hours of 6pm and 5am.

All businesses along the project area will have access to the business at all times.

Traffic Impacts

State Route 14 & State Route 43 intersection improvements, Streetsboro
NEW IMPACT – Beginning Monday evening, March 23, the intersection of SR 14 & SR 43 will be reduced to one through lane in each direction with no left turns permitted. Motorists wishing to make a left turn at the intersection will need to use Market Square Dr.

NEW IMPACT – Beginning Monday evening, March 23, the SR 303 slip lane to SR 14 will be permanently closed. The detour will be Superior Ave.

NEW IMPACT – Beginning Monday, March 23, SR 303 at SR 14 will be closed through early July. The detour will be Superior Ave. to SR 14.

The only left turn that can be made during the rebuilding process will be from 43 northbound (coming from Kent) to SR 14 westbound (going towards I-480). There will be no other left turns allowed, you will have to follow the detours.

There is no other way this project can be completed, it must be done in one shot. We have given ample warning this project is taking place. Please use the next week or so to try to plan an alternative route. For you folks that are coming from the Ravenna, Shalersville and points east, please consider using the Ohio Turnpike. If you use the turnpike, you can get on in Shalersville off 44 and get off in Streetsboro at 187 and completely avoid all of the construction. I know there is a toll involved and only you can weigh the value of spending a couple dollars a day versus waiting what will certainly be an extended amount of time in traffic. On 44 from the intersection of 14 and 44 to the turnpike is about 9 minutes and once you are on the turnpike it is about a 6 minute trip to the Streetsboro exit.

I’m certain there are going to be many comments about how this should be done differently but there truly is no other way. We have to get through this and we will be done with it for 25-30 years.

I have included the link to ODOT’s website that will be updated.

***Please read about a new program for Portage County. Please Share***
There are new ID cards available for those who struggle to communicate due to an intellectual or developmental disability. The idea is for a family member to fill out the required information by either scanning the QR Code on the attached image or by using the following link: https://forms.gle/31QynMaB7dqrezdH6 .
Once the info is submitted, it will go directly to the Mental Health Recovery Board of Portage County. The info will be converted into an ID card and the completed ID card will then be given to the family by their local police department.
The hope is that if someone who is nonverbal is found unaccompanied or in distress, the ID card will have information that is helpful for Police or EMS including family contact info.
This card is designed for those who struggle or are not able to communicate, but it can be used for anyone that has a mental health issue and having the card may benefit them.
The program is brand new and a bit of a learning curve but it is a great resource for our more at-risk community members.
