The Eustis Fire Department performed a training focusing on the utilization of the newly acquired Marine 1. The training provided in depth insight for members of the department to learn hands on response and deployment procedures.

The training also demonstrated the versatility of the new apparatus. Flagstaff lake contains some of the most challenging navigation and submerged obstacles of any lake in the state. Thanks to the excellent on-board navigation devices and mapping tools the team is able to identify and mark key areas of the lake to make their response to any incident efficient and safe.

The new apparatus expands the already exceptional response methods for the department. We look forward to continuing our growth as a department and the service we can provide to our community.

We at the Eustis Fire Department are deeply saddened by the loss of a Maine Game Warden. The Maine Warden Service has served beside us in the countless emergency responses and we grieve with them and their families during this difficult time.

The Maine Warden service was advised of two hikers that had become immobile and in danger of exposure near the summit of Avery Peak in the Bigelow mountain range of Dead River Twp. At the top of the Fire Warden’s Trail. Warden Garrett Moody compiled information regarding the hiker’s location, situation, and condition.

Patient carry out has been ruled out with the safer availability of a helicopter extraction. Team 1 will remain on scene to stabilize and continue patient care until helicopter evac from the National Guard.

Perfect timing.
8 days after a multiagency training in a simulated snowmobile crash in Carrabasset Valley we had a actual accident in Eustis.
Friday afternoon January 16 Eustis Fire Department, Maine Game Wardens and EMS 61 was dispatched to trail ITS -89 in Eustis for a snowmobile accident with injuries.
5 members responded.
1 went directly from home on a snowmobile with a radio and medical gear to locate and update all other responding units. From the time of the call to arrival to the patient was about 17 minutes.
4 other members responded to the station to pick up specialized gear to be able to safely remove the injured person to a staging ambulance.
The injured person was treated and packaged at the site of the accident by EFD members then transported by Rescue toboggan to EMS 61 staging area.
Patient was then administered advanced life support and was transported to a hospital.

Eustis Fire Department does training 2 times a month. The last training in December we combined Eustis Fire and Carrabassett Valley Fire Department members how to properly package an injured snowmobile rider in a classroom setting.
The first training in January we organized a multi-agency training on how to respond to a snowmobile crash and work as a team.
A simulated accident was staged in Carrabasset Valley. The following agencies participated in this live training, Eustis Maine Fire Department, Maine Forest Rangers, Maine Game Warden Service, Carrabasset Valley Fire Department.
