Chucky has been at the shelter much longer than he deserves. While we love him dearly, a shelter kennel was never supposed to become his home. He deserves a couch, a family and someone who looks forward to seeing that big blocky head every single day.

Today, Chucky traded his kennel for a pretty amazing field trip with volunteers Heather and Ann Marie. His destination? The swimming pool! And judging by the pictures, Chucky took his adventure very seriously. Swimming, retrieving his toy and soaking up the attention made for one very happy boy.

Chucky isn’t perfect. We aren’t going to pretend that he is. He has his quirks, and he needs a home willing to accept him for exactly who he is. But underneath those quirks is a dog with a tremendous amount of love to give. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance to show it.

Chucky is approximately 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has tested negative for disease. He would prefer to be the king of his castle and your one and only pet.

There is something especially heartbreaking about watching a dog enjoy a day like today and knowing that when the adventure is over, he has to come back to the shelter.

We want Chucky’s next big adventure to end differently.

We want it to end with him going HOME.

When Wiley first came into our care, our hearts broke.

He had been found roaming near Roosevelt Forest, severely emaciated, missing a leg, infested with parasites and suffering from significant hair loss. His body told the story of a dog who had endured far more than any animal ever should.

He needed medical treatment, good nutrition and, perhaps just as importantly, time to learn that he was finally safe.

Today, we are finally getting to see the Wiley who was hiding underneath all of that pain.

He has a pep in his step and a twinkle in his eye.

With medical care, good food, enrichment and a whole lot of TLC, Wiley is getting stronger. His coat is improving, his eyes are brighter, and that worried face is being replaced by something we desperately hoped we would see: happiness.

And just look at that smile.

Despite everything he has endured, Wiley still wants to trust. He still wants affection. He still wants to be close to people. He doesn’t seem to know that having three legs is supposed to slow him down. What he does know is that life has gotten better, and he is embracing every bit of it.

While the criminal case involving Wiley remains ongoing, we are thrilled to share that Wiley is now ready for adoption.

This boy has already survived the hardest chapter of his story. Now he needs someone willing to give him the chapter he always deserved. A home. A family. A soft place to sleep. The security of knowing he will never again have to wonder where his next meal or act of kindness will come from.

Someone out there gets to be Wiley’s happily ever after.
