Strasburg Borough Council June 9, 2026 Municipal Brief

At the June 9, 2026 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, Borough Council 1) observed a moment of silence in memory of past Councilmember H. Dale Spaulding, 2) approved the Historical Architectural Review Board Certificates of appropriateness for 11 West Main Street for a sign and lights and for 206 West Main Street’s suggested wood portion of fence to be the same material as the rest of the fence, and 3) approved the payment of the bills.

The Borough Manager’s written report was received and accepted. The report contained updates on the following items: 1) The stormwater project is 2/3 complete and work is progressing on South Decatur Street. 2) Bids have been received for the Eshelman Run Phase II project which will be acted upon by the Authority. 3) We have received $96,123.91 in interest so far this year. 4) The temporary traffic signal post at the Square was struck again by a tractor trailer on June 3, 2026 and the claim has been approved by the insurance company. Following PennDOT’s specifications, the new pole will be closer to the planting pocket. 5) A small group will be formed to discuss how we can save the Memorial Day Parade and modify the program.

The Police Chief reported 386 calls for service in May 2026. There were no criminal arrests, 3 speeding arrests, 10 other traffic arrests, 30 traffic warnings, 7 parking tickets, and 6 accidents. The Strasburg Borough Police Department had a Chicken BBQ fundraiser for National Night Out at the Strasburg Marketplace. Officer Re*****on attended an Officer Level Leadership Course. Officer Denlinger returned from his deployment and will be back in the officer rotation at the end of June.

East Main Street/South Decatur Street/Shenk Avenue Stormwater Project Update #19

Work started on the South Decatur Street portion of the stormwater infrastructure project. Two-thirds of the whole stormwater infrastructure project is now complete. There will be no work completed Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The contractor will continue work on Monday, installing infrastructure on South Decatur Street moving from the northern end to the southern end. Work is expected to be completed in late July. If you travel through Center Square you'll notice the trees have been removed. This is due to the PennDOT required update to the ADA ramps. They need brought into compliance in all areas of the project on East Main and South Decatur Streets, including at Center Square.

The first two blocks of South Decatur Street will remain closed to through traffic. We appreciate the patience of South Decatur Street and surrounding development residents affected by the detour. Please exercise caution and patience when traveling in the detour area for your safety and for the safety of those working!

A Strasburg Borough staff member will be onsite at all times during the project. If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints, please contact the Borough Office at 717-687-7732 or e-mail Borough Manager, Steve Echternach, at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this project!
