As I created this painting, it brought back so many memories. If you went to Strandburg School, you maybe can conjure up these same memories In your mind. There’s the pretty dark woodwork and bannisters leading up to the high school. The creakiness of the staircase and the beautiful shiny wood floors make you feel like you’ve come home. The wood gym floor was so pretty and everyone was so proud of it All through the classrooms were the wooden desks on the wood runners with wrought iron sides. There’s the water fountain in the hallway-the elementary coat closet - the balcony over the gym - the sink to wash hands before going to lunch- the area where band instruments were kept and and off of that the area for storage and gym mats, etc. and don’t forget - no dark soled shoes on the gym floor and keep off of the fire escape. Recesses were on the playground equipment or playing ball. And it was a privilege to be chosen to clean the chalkboard erasers outside. School was school, of course, with so many memories of teachers and assignments and band and vocal music. It shaped us into the kind of people we are today It’s wonderful to dig tunnels with our mind into Strandburg history and discover new and interesting information.

I’m so excited to be working with the kids at Tabor Lutheran Church at Strandburg. As a child I remember Mission Sundays. We learned about our place in the church, community, state and world and how important we were. Sharing the word of the Bible was our mission! Listen to your kids and let’s all do this together. It’s the 4th Sunday of each month at Tabor from 9:30 - 10:15 am.
