National Police Week 2026 đź’™

This week, we honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our communities and stand with the families, friends, and colleagues who carry their legacy forward.

National Police Week traces back to 1962, when President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. Each year, the week that includes May 15 is set aside to remember, reflect, and show our gratitude.

We remember the fallen. We support the survivors. We thank those who continue to serve.

“Congratulations to Stow’s new Police Chief, Heather Prusha, who was sworn in yesterday by Mayor John Pribonic at Stow City Hall in front of a packed audience. She gave much credit to her predecessor Chief Jeff Film, who was there to wish her well.

Again, congratulations Chief Prusha! 🇺🇸”

Prayers to his loved ones and coworkers! Also, continued prayers for the other two officers injured.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
National Police Week will be observed May 11th–17th. Stow FOP Lodge 82 also remembers our lost friend and coworker Jonathan Bastock who is listed on the wall as well.
The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will hold ceremonies, including the 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial, which will be held Tuesday, May 13th, at 8 p.m. on the National Mall. The Candlelight Vigil will be livestreamed on:
• Facebook: Facebook.com/NLEOMF
• YouTube: YouTube.com/NLEOMF
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.

Stow Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 82 absolutely opposes any attempt to eliminate Qualified Immunity for law enforcement officers and other public officials.
Qualified Immunity is a legal doctrine that shields government officials, including police officers, from liability in civil lawsuits for actions taken within the scope of their official duties, provided those actions do not violate clearly established constitutional or statutory rights.
Qualified Immunity does not protect bad cops. It protects good cops, who do their job according to their policies, procedures, and training.
Eliminating Qualified Immunity will raise taxes, increase crime
and devastate the number of people willing to serve their
community.
Eliminating Qualified Immunity hurts not just law enforcement,
it targets those who educate our children, care for our elderly,
and all other public employees.
Support Law Enforcement and decline to sign any petition to end Qualified Immunity.
