BIKE/SCOOTER LIGHTS FOR KIDS: This Friday our officers will be at the Stoughton High School before the varsity football game giving away a limited number of bike lights (pictured) to students who need them for their bike or scooter.

Ordinance: No bicycle shall be operated on any highway, street, sidewalk, bicycle way, bicycle path or bicycle route in the city during any period of time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise without the proper lighting equipment for nighttime riding as described in Wis. Stats. § 347.489.

Sharing a friendly reminder from WI DOT.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: As school starts in most Wisconsin districts this week, you’ll start to see more school buses on the roads again. Here’s a reminder of what the different colored lights on a school bus indicate and what you should do if they’re flashing:

🟠Amber Warning Lights: The school bus is about to stop. Slow down and prepare to stop.

🔴Red Warning Lights: Stop at least 20 feet from the bus whether approaching from either direction. The only exception is if you are traveling on the other side of a divided road that’s separated by a median or other physical barrier.

YARD SIGNS: We have plenty of Slow Down yard signs available any time our dispatch office is open. The signs are free and can be a great reminder for drivers to slow down, especially in and around school zones.
