This week for Member Monday, we’re excited to introduce you to one of the leaders who plays an important role here at Story City First Responders — our Assistant Chief, Chris Dahl! Chris first joined SCFR in 2009 and served through 2013 before returning to the team in 2020. Since then, he has continued to dedicate his time, experience, and heart to serving others, totaling 10 years of service with our department. Outside of Story City First Responders, Chris serves as the Executive Director at Riverside Bible Camp, where he also has the opportunity to work with and serve others. When asked what makes being a first responder rewarding, Chris shared, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet people in some of their darkest moments in life and have the chance to bring treatment, comfort, and peace.” That mindset truly captures what first responder service is all about. We often meet people on some of the worst days of their lives, and having someone there who can not only provide care, but also bring a sense of calm, compassion, and reassurance, can make a lasting difference. Chris brings that perspective to every call and to his role as a leader within our team.
When Chris isn’t responding to calls, helping with training, or supporting our crew, you’ll most likely find him spending time with his family, hiking, running, or attending his boys activities. Family and community are clearly important parts of who Chris is, and we’re thankful that he chooses to give so much of his time back to the community we serve. His years of experience, leadership, and willingness to show up for others have made him an important part of Story City First Responders, and we’re grateful to have him on our team. So the next time you see Chris around Story City, whether he’s out with his family or responding in an ambulance, be sure to give him a wave, say hello, and thank him for the many years he has spent serving our community! Thank you, Chris, for everything you do for Story City First Responders and the people we serve!
