Safety was the focus in South Windsor and Chaplin as the T2 Center hosted two sessions of On-the-Job Safety and OSHA Regulations, a required Road Master Program workshop led by T2 instructor Adam Drummond.

Participants explored the hazards associated with highway maintenance work and the regulations designed to keep public works professionals safe—both on the jobsite and at the garage. Through discussions, case studies, and local best practices, attendees learned practical ways to work safely and efficiently.

Happy September T2! Today, we’re in Farmington for a hands-on Traffic Signal Troubleshooting workshop, where participants are gaining experience identifying and resolving controller, cabinet, and MMU/conflict monitor malfunctions through real-world scenarios. A special thank you to Stephen Frycz (City of Stamford) and Gary Pilczak (CT Department of Transportation), who are leading today’s training.

This week, Regina Hackett and Mary McCarthy attended PWX, the American Public Works Association’s national expo and conference, in Houston, Texas. They joined public works professionals from across the country for educational sessions, networking, and the latest industry innovations.

The conference was especially memorable as APWA honored Regina with the National Excellence in Education Award! Congratulations, Regina, on this well-deserved national recognition!

Today we were in Manchester for CT Green Snow Pro for Roadways, a Road Scholar Elective Workshop. T2 Instructors Jim Mahoney and Tom Modzelewski covered sustainable winter operations, including the environmental impacts of salt use, equipment calibration, and best practices for salt application. The calibration demonstration and winter storm exercise gave participants a deeper understanding of these topics.

🚌 Back-to-School Means Safety First

School is back in session, and that means new routines and new traffic patterns.

As students head to bus stops, walk to school, and parents navigate drop-off lines, our roads become much busier.

A few simple reminders:
⏰ Leave a few extra minutes for your commute.
🚸 Watch for children crossing the street and walking near roadways.
🚗 Be patient as everyone adjusts to the new school-year routine.
A little extra time and awareness can make everyone's commute safer and less stressful.

Road Scholar Program participants were in Guilford yesterday for Expecting an Inspection: Getting Ready for OSHA workshop.

The workshop focused on identifying common hazards in public works facilities, understanding the OSHA inspection process, maintaining required records, and preparing for compliance. Participants also completed a facility walk-through exercise demonstrating what typically occurs during an inspection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important workplace safety training!

We’re kicking off the T2 Fall 2026 training season with our Pedestrian Signals & Auxiliary Equipment workshop, part of the Traffic Signal Technician Program! Participants explored ADA, PROWAG, and MUTCD requirements for pedestrian signal design and accessibility, along with industry best practices for accessible installations and operations. A special thank you to Marissa Tarallo (AKRF), Stephen Frycz (City of Stamford), and Shawn Barry & Jason Hughes (T2 Center Safety Technical Associates) for sharing their expertise!
