๐Ÿšง ROADWORK & SCHOOL TRAFFIC REMINDER ๐Ÿšง

With school back in session on Wednesday, we want to remind everyone about some ongoing roadwork and traffic changes around town.

โš ๏ธ SUMMER STREET โ€“ SOUTH SCHOOL

Summer Street will be CLOSED during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal to accommodate South School traffic.

Please plan an alternate route and expect increased traffic in the surrounding area during these times.

โš ๏ธ **FRANKLIN STREET โ€“ ROADWORK**

Franklin Street will remain **OPEN until 8:30 AM** to allow for morning school traffic.

Roadwork will begin **after 8:30 AM**, and crews will be **off the roadway by 2:15 PM** to accommodate dismissal traffic at Stoneham High School.

๐Ÿšง Please remember that construction schedules and traffic patterns can change as work progresses. Motorists should allow extra travel time, follow posted detours, and obey the directions of officers and traffic directors.

๐ŸšŒ With students back in school, please also be mindful of school buses, pedestrians, cyclists, and new drivers on our roadways. Slow down, stay alert, and give everyone a little extra patience.

Thank you for helping us keep our students, construction crews, and community safe.

First day of School is Wednesday....

The Stoneham Police Department would like to wish all of our students, teachers, staff, and families a happy, safe, and successful first day of school!

As everyone settles back into the school-year routine, please remember to **slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution** around our schools, crosswalks, bus stops, and neighborhoods. ๐Ÿ›‘

๐ŸšŒ **Watch for school buses and flashing lights**
๐Ÿšธ **Be alert for students crossing the street**
๐Ÿš— **Allow extra time during drop-off and pick-up**
๐Ÿ“ต **Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road**
๐Ÿ‘ฎ **Please follow the directions of our traffic directors, and officers**

๐Ÿš˜ **And a special reminder to our new student drivers:** Take your time, stay focused, avoid distractions, and remember that getting to school safely is more important than getting there quickly. Give yourself a few extra minutes and start the school year with safe driving habits!

We know the first few days can bring some extra traffic and excitement, so a little patience goes a long way.

To all of our students โ€” whether itโ€™s your very first day of school or your first day of senior year โ€” we hope you have an amazing year! ๐Ÿ’™

Have a great first day, Stoneham!

Update:

We wanted to ensure the family had enough time to notify family and friends first.

We can now confirm that the body of Curt Nitzsche was recovered in a wooded area off Haverhill Street.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death continue to be investigated, at this time, they do not appear to be suspicious.

There is no threat to the public.
