The Legislature agrees: We need to close gaps in our support systems for justice-impacted youth!

With no opposition, we sent my bill, AB 1659, to the Governor. It will ensure there is a dedicated staff member at the receiving school district to help students transition during this vulnerable time.

Without strong transitional support, court school students can easily fall through the cracks, especially when they leave court school and return to their home district.

Thank you to all of our incredible partners and volunteers who helped us provide thousands of students with new school supplies! Because of you, they will start the school year ready to succeed. 💜

The Minerva Scholarship is an annual statewide program open to women pursuing higher education in California, and I have the honor of selecting recipients from our district.

This year, I am once again blown away by the drive of our youth and the overwhelming number of applications my office received.

Malika Conteh of Stockton, a recent graduate of Ronald E. McNair High School, will attend UC Riverside and pursue a career as a marriage and family therapist.

Suzana Magaña Gomez of Tracy is transferring from San Joaquin Delta College to the University of the Pacific, where she will continue preparing for a career as an immigration attorney.

Malika and Suzana will each receive a $3,000 scholarship to support their academic goals.

I am so grateful to help provide these opportunities for our rising leaders. Congratulations, Malika and Suzana!

BIG update: Several of the bills I authored moved one step closer to becoming law yesterday.

These bills passed the Senate Appropriations Committee and will now be considered by the full Senate:

➡️ AB 1590 - Ensures state funding approved for Career Technical Education actually reaches students and supports hands-on training for careers in health care, agriculture, manufacturing, the trades and more.

➡️ AB 1610 - Makes it easier for voters who cannot receive mail at home to update their mailing address and receive important election information.

➡️ AB 1832 - Strengthens California’s 2-1-1 system so people can quickly connect with housing, food, health, disaster and emergency resources.

➡️ AB 2032 - Urgent action to respond to invasive golden mussels and protect our water infrastructure, the Delta, farms and our crops.

➡️ AB 2543 - Helps ensure fast-charging stations for electric vehicles are safe, reliable and prepared for emergencies and natural disasters.

➡️ AB 2475 - Improves California’s emergency response and recovery system by establishing clearer timelines for reviewing what worked, what did not and what needs to improve after a disaster.

➡️ AB 1659 - Helps justice-impacted youth stay on track in school as they transition from court schools back to their home districts.

➡️ AB 1713 - Allows students with disabilities to use existing medical and educational documentation when requesting college accommodations, instead of forcing them to be re-diagnosed.

➡️ AB 1794 - Allows life-sustaining nutritional formula to be mailed directly to medically fragile Californians rather than requiring a potentially dangerous trip to the pharmacy.

➡️ AB 1848 - Strengthens seed inspections to help ensure agricultural seeds are safe, properly labeled and free from harmful weeds.

➡️ AB 2471 - Strengthens California’s earthquake preparedness by improving coordination among the state agencies represented on the Seismic Safety Commission.

These bills received final approval from the Legislature and are already on the Governor’s desk:

✅ AB 230 - Protects grape growers, agricultural jobs and local economies by continuing California’s work to stop invasive threats to our vineyards.

✅ AB 2413 - Protects taxpayer dollars by ensuring public funds are used for essential government purposes.
