The Stockton Unified School District Department of Public Safety is one of a handful of specialized K-12 police agencies in California. The Department works 24/7 with a focus on students, staff, schools, and safety/security, and serves more than 40,000 students, faculty, and staff at more than 60 schools in the greater Stockton community. Authorized staffing includes 33 sworn and 11 civilian personnel. The Police Department’s current budget is approximately $6 million. Sworn personnel of the Department are peace officers pursuant to Penal Code 830.32 and Education Code 38000 . The Department has been certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training since 1989.

Tonight, SRO Gutierrez and SRO Gonzales were on site connecting with Henry families and sharing information about SUSD PD and how we support our schools.

They were joined by Fingerprint Clerk P. Watkins, who provided parents with details on volunteer procedures and important new updates for this school year.

SUSD PD was out in full force for Back to School Night! 👮‍♂️🖐️

Tonight our Fingerprint Unit attended two events to support our families and schools:

📍 August Elementary – Shared volunteer information with parents interested in helping on campus. We love seeing our community step up!

📍 Kohl Elementary – Brought our mobile fingerprint services on-site so parents could complete their volunteer fingerprints without an extra trip. Convenience + safety = win.

Thank you to both school communities for having us. It was great connecting with so many families as we kick off the new school year.

Today we celebrate the retirement of Sgt. Marshall.

After 27 years in law enforcement and 11 years with SUSD PD, Sgt. Marshall is hanging up the badge.

Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to protecting our kids, our schools, and our community have left a lasting impact. You’ve mentored officers, built trust with families, and led with integrity every single day.

You will be deeply missed by all of us here at the PD, but we’re grateful for the legacy you leave behind.

That means more kids walking, biking, and riding the bus in our neighborhoods.
