Happy National Automotive Professionals Day!

Our mechanics are an essential part of mosquito control operations. By maintaining and repairing the vehicles and equipment our teams rely on, they help ensure we can provide timely mosquito surveillance, control, and public education services throughout the county.

Their dedication keeps our operations running smoothly and supports our mission to reduce mosquitoes and protect public health in our communities.

Thank you for all that you do!

👀 These mosquito breeding sources were found during recent mosquito service requests.

When residents report mosquitoes, our technicians often discover the source is standing water right in the yard. The good news? Many of these breeding sites are easy to eliminate.

Make it a habit to perform a weekly yard check:
✅ Walk your property
✅ Check areas near sprinklers and drip systems
✅ Empty containers holding water - even as little as a tablespoon!

A few minutes of prevention can help keep mosquitoes from multiplying around your home.

🌡️The weather is heating up this week!

Warmer temperatures = more mosquito activity!

Make sure to wear an EPA-registered repellent to prevent mosquito bites. Then walk your yard every week to find and eliminate hidden water sources where mosquitoes can grow! Tip out anything with even a tablespoon of water and toss containers and yard clutter.

🔎💧Spot the source. Stop the swarm! 🚫🦟

🦟Trivia Answer Revealed

Which mosquitoes bite? Males, females, or both?

If you guessed B) female mosquitoes, you’re correct!

Only female mosquitoes bite because they need the protein from blood to develop their eggs. Males don’t bite. They stick to nectar and other plant sugars.

The next time a mosquito bites you, you can be sure it’s a female looking for a blood meal.

Congratulations to SJCERA on 80 years of serving public employees and this well-deserved recognition!

The San Joaquin County Mosquito & Vector Control District is proud to participate in SJCERA and grateful for the work they do to support public employees throughout our county. We are especially proud of our own Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper, Emily Nicholas, for her service on the Board of Retirement representing General Members.

Congratulations on this milestone anniversary!

Celebrating 80 years of dedicated service! 🎉 We are honored that SJCERA’s 80th Anniversary was recognized by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, marking eight decades of commitment to serving the retirement security of public employees and retirees from our ten employers.

Of course, we dedicate this moment to our incredible members - retirees, deferred, and active alike - for trusting us in being the best version of ourselves. While 80 years have passed, our purpose remains the same: to provide a secure retirement.

Here's to continuing our mission for generations to come!

Every year, San Joaquin County Mosquito & Vector Control District staff inspect and treat more than 20,000 catch basins throughout San Joaquin County to help prevent mosquitoes before they become a problem in our neighborhoods.

But mosquito control doesn't stop there. Residents play an important role, too. Take a few minutes this week to walk your yard, spot hidden standing water, and dump it out.

While we treat mosquito sources throughout the county, you can help by eliminating mosquito sources around your home.

Together, we can reduce mosquitoes in our community.

Spot the source. Stop the swarm!
