A FAMILY IS GRIEVING. IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING, PLEASE SAY SOMETHING.

Stockton Police are investigating Friday night’s fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man near his home on South Sierra Nevada Street. He was transported to a hospital but died from his injuries. Police are asking the community for information that could help investigators.

There is a time for statistics and a time to remember what those statistics actually represent.

This was a young man. A father. A member of our community whose family is now facing a future without him.

We cannot allow violence to become background noise in Stockton, and accountability often begins when one person decides to share what they know.

TODAY AT CITY HALL: SPECIAL COUNCIL AUDIT COMMITTEE MEETING

Stockton’s Council Audit Committee meets today at 1:00 PM in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 501 W. Weber Avenue, Building 1.

Today’s special meeting includes continued discussion of the Aquatics Facilities Management Agreement involving Community Services Solutions, including information requested by committee members at the August 17 meeting.

The committee will also discuss information requested regarding California Public Records Act requests. Both matters are scheduled for discussion and information; the published recommendations specify that no action is to be taken today.

These may sound like technical government subjects, but oversight, contracts, public records and access to information are exactly where good-government principles become real.

Transparency should not simply mean explaining what government did afterward. It means giving the public an opportunity to see the process while it is happening.

The meeting is open to the public.
