San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) Associate Regional Planner Christine Tran was recently a featured panelist during an August meeting of the state Strategic Growth Council (SGC) to discuss the San Joaquin Regional Climate Collaborative (RCC).

SJCOG and its partners were awarded a $1.75 million SGC grant in 2022 to form the San Joaquin RCC. The initiative focuses on climate education and outreach in Lodi, Stockton, and Tracy. SJCOG’s partners include Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Stockton, Stockton Service Corps , University of the Pacific’s Center for Business and Policy Research, Public Health Advocates, and GRID Alternatives North Valley.

The panel discussion highlighted the value of collaborations in community engagement and equity, and how these partnerships lay the foundation for seeking additional funding for climate resilience programs.

The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) is taking over the administrative leadership of the Megaregion Working Group for the coming year.

Elected officials from the policy boards of SJCOG, Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) make up the Megaregion Working Group that take on a number of state and federal planning and programming responsibilities. Administrative leadership rotates among the agencies.

They also promote the Megaregion Dozen Projects that will benefit the 11 million people in the 16 counties and 136 cities of the Northern California Megaregion that stretches from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada.

It’s award season! The Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Workers Association just named the San Joaquin Council of Governments’ State Route 99/120 Connector in Manteca its Project of the Year.

SJCOG Board Chair and Manteca Mayor Gary Singh, SJCOG Executive Director Diane Nguyen, SJCOG Manager of Programming and Project Delivery Gwen Owens, and partners were on hand to receive the award at the APWA Project of the Year Awards Luncheon in Sacramento on Aug. 7.

If you travel between State Routes 99 and 120, the improvements taking shape at this critical connection are designed to make your trip safer, smoother, and more reliable.

The SR 99/SR 120 Connector Project adds capacity to a heavily traveled freeway connection, replaces the Austin Road overcrossing, and improves nearby streets. These investments will help reduce congestion, improve local access, and support the movement of people and goods throughout San Joaquin County and Northern California.

And now, the project has earned another distinction: the APWA Sacramento Chapter's 2026 Project of the Year Award in the Transportation: Bridge category for projects over $50 million.

The award recognizes the planning, engineering, construction, and coordination required to deliver a project of this size while keeping one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors moving.
