Dear district 2 resident,
I deeply appreciate all your support during the primary election. While we didn’t move forward to the general election, there’s still important work to be done.
Your voice matters, and your vote counts. I encourage each of you to get out and vote.
In District 2, there are two candidates on the ballot:
• Waqar Rizvi
• Mariela Ponce
Mariela Ponce led the primary, but it seems there’s limited information about her. Since many of you voted for her, perhaps you can share more insight. Who is she? Is she married, does she have children? What is her profession? What is her vision? What is her plan to address critical issues like safety, homelessness, and support for small businesses and under-resourced neighborhoods in District 2? What does she really stand for?
Waqar Rizvi placed second in the primary. While I’ve seen his campaign mailers, I haven’t heard much about his plans or vision for District 2. There seems to be a lack of public events or outreach where we can hear him speak directly to the community. What is his plan for safety, homelessness, small businesses, and addressing the needs of the underserved areas in our district?
I’d also like to know if either candidate has actively encouraged new voters or visited communities like the townhomes or Kentfield to better understand the needs of the people living there.
If any of you have had the chance to engage with these candidates, I urge you to ask these questions. And if you already have answers, please share them with our community.
When you cast your vote, make sure it’s an informed decision. Know who you’re electing to represent us in District 2. While I’m not endorsing either candidate at this time due to limited information, I strongly believe we all deserve a representative who understands our needs and will advocate for us.
Even though District 2 isn’t receiving much attention, the person elected will have a significant responsibility. Their votes on city council will impact not only District 2 but the entire city of Stockton.
So please, get educated, and go vote!
Sincerely,
Pamela Houston
