The District’s own Miles DeBruicker, Romiah Morales, and Lou Stokes were among those behind last month’s five-course Culinary Arts Apprenticeship Dinner at Barrington Hall—the culmination of an eight-week program aimed at giving students hands-on culinary experience in a professional kitchen. The annual event, hosted by Railroad Street Youth Project (RSYP), celebrates the accomplishments of local youth while showing them a path forward. “[Our apprenticeship program] is an opportunity for young people to explore career pathways, gain skills, and connect with mentors who become important possibility models,” said RSYP Executive Director Ananda Timpane who reminds students that “doing something you love, and finding success, can happen right here in the Berkshires.”

Rising 9th graders recently experienced high school programming in action during an epic visit hosted by 20 current students and 15 staff. The group from Du Bois enjoyed a student-teacher panel and tours of classroom spaces spanning chemistry to woodworking. The freedom to choose classes, follow passions, and try new things—from Fall Festival of Shakespeare and Restorative Justice training to horticulture classes and team sports—tops their looking-forward-to list for September. See you then!

Each month, the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Team at MMRHS highlights two students from each grade level who contribute to the classroom or the school community in positive, meaningful ways. “Students enjoy knowing that their teachers appreciate their contributions to our school environment, so feel free to nominate early and often,” says Jolyn Unruh who facilitates the monthly recognition process. Joining the almost 50 individuals who have been highlighted on the bulletin board this year are the final group of the year: Trista Ivas, Willow Anderson, Peter Stoepker, Riley Bashford, Cielo Sanginas Canacuan , Clay Steven, Emma Seward, and Kyle McMahon. Teamwork for the win!

Congratulations Graduates! We're very proud of you.

This year’s grade three literacy curriculum has been one for the books. After reading Right Back At You by Carolyn Mackler (a story about finding the friend you need... even if that friend happens to live in another place…or time period!), the author dropped by Muddy Brook for a virtual classroom visit. The experience inspired students to launch a pen pal exchange with a classroom in Wilmington, Delaware—giving them a fun, real-world opportunity to practice formal letter writing and build connections beyond their community. Way to go, Team 3!

Congratulations to all the graduates!

For the second year in a row, representatives from the Student Adult Advisory Board at MMRHS participated in the Berkshire Student Voice Summit at Berkshire Community College. This year's theme was "Lead the Change” and students discussed big-picture questions centered on building community and centering student voice. The summit—part of the regional Portrait of a Graduate initiative—empowers students to discuss the future of high school education, engage in community service projects, and collaborate directly with one another.
