OSU has unveiled the future sites of its new veterinary teaching hospital and Agronomy Discovery Center, marking the next step toward bringing these transformative facilities to life.

Pasture mealybug has not been detected in Oklahoma, but recent findings in surrounding states have put this emerging pest on the radar.

Ashleigh Faris, statewide IPM coordinator and OSU Extension cropping systems entomologist, explains what producers should watch for, including yellowing or dying grass and small, white, waxy insects near the soil surface. If you suspect pasture mealybug, collect a sample and contact your local OSU Extension county office for identification.

Football season is here, and food safety should be part of every tailgate plan. 🏈

Christi Evans, OSU Extension food safety specialist, shares a few reminders before heading to the game:
• Keep hot foods at 140 F or above and cold foods at 40 F or below.
• Use a food thermometer to ensure meats reach a safe internal temperature.
• Return food to the cooler within two hours, or within one hour when temperatures are above 90 F.
• Bring soap, clean water, paper towels and sanitizing wipes to create a handwashing station.

From tracking invasive aquatic plants to helping prepare Stillwater’s future water supply, OSU doctoral student Narges Taravatrooy is putting lake science to work. 💧

Using water samples, drones and satellite data, Narges is studying Oklahoma lakes to better understand water quantity and quality. Her research at Lake McMurtry and Lake Carl Blackwell is helping turn that science into information that water managers can use to protect these resources for the future.

Are you watering more than your crop actually needs? Do you know what’s in your private well water? 💧

OSU Extension has resources to help Oklahomans answer both. Producers can use soil moisture sensors, irrigation schedulers, Mesonet weather data and satellite estimates to better understand their crops’ water needs. That information can help guide irrigation decisions and potentially reduce unnecessary pumping and energy costs. Private well owners can also access free water screenings and Extension expertise to better understand their results and the next steps that may be needed.

It’s all part of how OSU Extension is turning water research into practical tools Oklahomans can use. Learn more about these efforts below.
