Summer reading kicks off today! See the images below for a full list of kits and in-person programming (paper copies of the schedule are also available at the library). A reminder that registration for kits will begin on Monday of the week listed, and that kits not picked up by Saturday will be forfeited and be available on a first-come-first-served basis the following week. All in-person programs will take place at the library with the exception of Music in the Park at Bear Cave Park on Wednesday nights. Read on to learn about what fun things we have going on this week and how reading records will work!
This week we have three kits available. For Pre-K (Ages 0-5) we have a play-dough kit. For School-Aged, we have the dinosaur dig kit. For teens and adults, we have the watercolor painting kit. Kits supplies are limited. Monday night is Adult Craft night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Bring a craft to work on or do adult coloring with provided materials.
On Tuesday, we have Family Story Time at 10:30 a.m. Following story time we’ll have our Read with Kealy the Dog program from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sign up for a 10-minute slot to practice reading aloud with Kealy the Therapy Dog. Bring your own book or pick from one of ours. Reading spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wednesday night we'll be popping up at Music in the Park at Bear Cave beginning at 6:30 p.m.!

Reading records will work similarly to last year. Printed records will be available for pickup at the library for Pre-K (ages 0-5) and school-aged kids (5-18) beginning on Monday, June 8.
To complete a Pre-K reading record, read 30 books with your child by August 14 to receive a prize pack, spin the prize wheel, and enter to win a Toniebox or one of our other prize baskets!
To complete a school-aged reading record, kids should read or be read to for a total of 10 hours. Once they’ve completed their reading, bring the record back to the library to enter for prizes. Each completed record is entered into our weekly Barnes & Noble gift card drawing (beginning June 20). For each completed reading record, kids will also be able to spin the prize wheel to win a small prize and enter into our end-of-the-summer grand prize basket drawings. If kids can complete four reading records by August 14 they will also receive a choice of a Stewartville Public Library mini tote bag! All reading records should be turned in by the end of the day Friday, August 14. We’ll be contacting our winners over the weekend!
