The Women's Fund of Portage County hosted its second Women's Fund 100 Strong event on March 6 at the Commons Community Nonprofit Center.

The morning focused on how expanding access to child care empowers families to pursue career opportunities and life goals while supporting fair wages for the child care workforce. Attendees heard from the Portage County FORWARD: Early Learning and Care Coalition that have developed strategies to expand resources for workforce development and essential needs for child care facilities.

Donors raised $10,000 which was matched by the Women's Fund Endowment to a total of $20,000 to support this important work and help strengthen child care solutions in our region. Thanks to the generosity of those who participated in the event.

Our extended gratitude to our speakers: Kelly Borchardt, Executive Director of Childcaring, Inc. Jordyn Baumann, Early Childhood Consultant with Childcaring, Inc. Mae Nachman, Vice President of Community Impact with United Way, and April Niemi, Vice President of CAP Services Early Childhood Development.

The topic is child care access and expansion. Access to affordable, quality child care empowers mothers to make their own choices about workforce participation, career paths, and life goals, while ensuring fair compensation for child care workers, a workforce composed predominantly of women.

Join us as we learn from two Portage County organizations that are leading the way in expanding affordable child care access for families in our community.
