Help keep recycling and solid waste workers safe by disposing of your old needles, lancets and syringes at a sharps collection station.

Hand sorting is a common practice at the materials recovery facilities that recycle metal, plastic and glass containers. If a container with sharps spills, work comes to a grinding halt. If a worker gets stuck, they must go through hours of testing and paperwork.

“Black ice” refers to ice that coats the road in an invisible layer. It’s most common in the morning, as snowmelt can refreeze overnight in freezing temperatures.

If you hit a patch of ice, gently lift your foot from the gas pedal and do not slam on your brakes. Steer straight to regain control.

Slowing down is the best way to avoid dangerous situations on icy roads!

If you get your drinking water from private wells, testing your well is important. About one-third of Wisconsin private well owners have ever tested their water. If you take the plunge and test your well water, will you understand the lab report results? No worries — help is available!

The DNR is excited to announce the release of Wisconsin’s version of the online tool "Be Well Informed," maintained by the Environmental Council of the States. This web tool allows private well owners to anonymously compare their lab results to state groundwater and drinking water health standards.
