JEFFERSON COUNTY, OH — [5/27/2026] — The Young Republicans of Jefferson County are calling for full transparency and public accountability regarding the proposed Sammis Plant data center project. This project would replace a former source of great high paying jobs and energy production, with an unsustainable energy leech with low paying temporary jobs.

Working families are already facing astronomical and ever rising utility bills, and the state is inching ever closer to rolling brownouts. Jefferson County deserves clear answers about the REAL costs of a project that will strain our already struggling state energy and county water infrastructure. Projects that promote economic development are essential, but if it is to continue it must be done honestly and conservatively. Not behind the backs of the most vulnerable and affected residents of Saline Township.

Public officials have a duty to represent their constituents openly. When elected officials refuse to address such a weighty issue publicly instead of being forthright with residents it forces the community to conclude that their interests are not being put first.

The Young Republicans of Jefferson County are making their stand now and asking these important questions while there is still time. With the 2027 Township elections around the corner, the proceedings of this will become the center of whether or not they remain in office.

The Sammis plant’s downfall is in part due to past state officials in Columbus selling Eastern Ohio energy down the river to bail out the First Energy corporation in one of the most notorious political scandals in Ohio history. Jefferson County cannot let our current elected officials sell us out on that same ground once again.

The Young Republicans of Jefferson County are immediately calling for more transparency moving forward so that the people of Jefferson County know exactly what impact this will have on the County. They fundamentally oppose the creation of data centers in this unjust and corrupt way and are calling on residents of Saline Township to contact their Trustees and Fiscal Officer to ask these questions directly.

The people of Jefferson County deserve development that creates sustainable jobs for the good of our community, not backroom deals that leave taxpayers and ratepayers with the consequences while extracting the wealth of Jefferson county to fill the pockets of out of state monied interests

Since 2021 Mr. Plesich has fought to reform the Clerk of Courts office in order to modernize it and ensure our tax dollars are being used efficiently and effectively. He has been a principled Republican fighter in Jefferson County and we thank him for his service in pushing a fiscally conservative agenda, and making Eastern Ohio an examplar of small yet effective government.

Great turnout this week as the Jefferson County Young Republicans hosted a candidate luncheon for Ohio House District 96 at the Brilliant Fire Department. We were honored to welcome former State Senator Frank Hoagland and sitting State Representative Ron Ferguson to speak with concerned citizens face to face.

Just some more of Jefferson County's young people stepping up and proving they can lead and do great things.
