The John Rankin House Historic Site is now closed for the season. We had a wonderful season with visitors from every state except North Dakota and many visitors from around the world. The 2025 season begins on Wed., April 2. Thank you to everyone who supported the Rankin House this year. We are honored to share the story of the Rankin family and Ripley’s role in the Underground Railroad.

Sept. 6, 1803, the seventh day of the expedition, was a tough time. Once again, fog delayed the start of river travel in the morning. And once again, Meriwether Lewis studied the differences between the water temperature (72 degrees) and the air temperature (71 degrees), only a two-degree difference...

This annual event is a wonderful way to say farewell to summer! Located in Toronto, Ohio, just off Rt. 7, the festival features a huge variety of art and crafts, vendors, food, music, and hourly raffles!

Brigadier General Charles Young was born in Mayslick, KY into slavery. At about 18 months old he and his mother crossed the Ohio River and settled in Ripley. Charles Young grew up in Ripley, taught school in Ripley and left for West Point from Ripley.
