We have 5 days left to sign up!! With that i wanted to let people know why our United Way 5K is held in memory of Suzanne Kresser. The answer is simple, Suzanne had a heart for people and a deep love for this community.
Suzanne once said, “I care about my community. I love to volunteer, and I have a passion for fundraising.” She shared that United Way was where she truly discovered that passion. She didn’t raise money for recognition, she did it so others would have the resources and support they needed to go out and accomplish great things.
Her life was filled with service. Suzanne served on the Trinity Health System Foundation Board of Directors from 2010–2018, and in November 2018, she was honored as a Woman of Distinction for her professional and community service. She loved working with the children of 4-H, and she loved her friends’ children as if they were her own nieces and nephews.
Suzanne also understood that none of us makes a difference alone. She proudly gave credit to the strong women who inspired her: Eleanor Naylor, Patricia Fletcher, Marian Houser, Christine Hargrave, Sophie Schoolcraft and Laura Meeks. Their example helped shape the woman Suzanne became, and Suzanne’s example continues to shape others today.
That is why this 5K means so much more than a race. It is a way for us to keep Suzanne’s heart, passion and love for Jefferson County moving forward. Every person who signs up, every sponsor who gives and every volunteer who helps is continuing the work that meant so much to her.
Suzanne believed in lifting others up and making her community better. We are proud to carry on her legacy, one step at a time. ❤️

💙 THANK YOU

I have been trying to find the right words to write this, and I’m realizing there really aren’t words big enough for what I feel.

When we lost my twin sister, Miranda, her husband and family asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the United Way of Jefferson County in her memory.

Seeing those donations come in has touched me in a way I don’t know how to explain.

Most people know me as the Executive Director of United Way, but with every one of those gifts, I wasn’t thinking as an Executive Director. I was thinking as Miranda’s twin sister.

I was thinking about her.

Miranda had one of the biggest hearts for people. She noticed when someone was struggling. She cooked for people when they were sick or going through a difficult time. She helped a family who needed a hotel. If she knew someone needed something and she could help, she did. She didn't do it for recognition. That was simply Miranda.

And that is why this means so much to me.

As her twin sister, I want every person who donated to know that I saw her name on your gift. I thought about the person I shared my entire life with. I thought about her laugh, her giving heart, her love for her family, and how proud I will always be to say, “That was my twin sister.”

And as the Executive Director of United Way, I can promise you that the love behind those gifts will be turned into help for people right here in our community. A community Miranda loved, even after living away for years. She always knew what was happening back home, sometimes before I did.

I am incredibly grateful that her name will be connected to giving, helping and loving people, because that is exactly who she was.

To every person who donated in Miranda’s memory: THANK YOU from the deepest part of my heart.

You didn't just make a donation to United Way.

You honored my twin.

You remembered her.

And you are helping a little piece of Miranda's giving heart continue to take care of people.

I don't think I could ask for a more beautiful way to honor her. 💙
