🚧 PLAN AHEAD: I-76 closure near Sterling next week 🚧

A short, one-time Interstate 76 closure is anticipated to take place next Thursday, June 18, near Sterling. An I-76 closure is needed for crews to complete communications utility work. Motorists for eastbound and westbound I-76 will be routed onto nearby US Highway 138 for a detour route. Travelers are encouraged to plan for approximately 20 minutes of additional travel time during the I-76 closure and detour.

📍 Location: I-76 between Exit 125 and Exit 149
📅 Date: June 18 (weather permitting)
⏰ Time: Between 6–8 a.m.
⏳ Closure and detour duration: About 30 minutes to 1 hour

The project is being conducted by Industrial Communications West, LLC, and is not related to the CDOT US 6 resurfacing project between Sterling and Atwood.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this important work is safely completed.

Very warm temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds this afternoon will result in an environment favorable for rapid fire spread over the plains of northeastern Colorado, particularly for areas that have not received significant rainfall and sufficient green-up. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 8 pm for relative humidity in the low teens and west winds expected to gust into the 30-40 mph range, strongest near the Wyoming border.

Thunderstorm warning until 4:15.

A few severe storms will be possible across northeast Colorado this afternoon and evening. Isolated to scattered storms are expected to develop along the I-25 Corridor by mid afternoon and quickly intensify, and then move east across the plains through early evening. Very large hail expected from any severe storms, although some will produce high wind and a threat of tornadoes. Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. If storms approach your area, move your car to a garage if time permits to do so safely.

We are in a fire weather watch for Tuesday. These typically in the past have turned to Red Flag days.
