On September 18, the Su***de Prevention Summit & Bridge to Hope 5K will bring people together for a free event focused on prevention, connection and hope.

PulsePoint Respond is a 911-connected app that can immediately inform you of emergencies occurring in your community and can request your help when CPR is needed nearby. More information can be found here: https://www.westpierceemergency.org/.

Update at 4:40 pm - Crews have nearly completed repair work. Marietta Street remains open to vehicle traffic, albeit under some temporary limitation. Thank you for your patience.

On August 31, 2026, at approximately 1:11 pm, construction crews in the 2700 block of Marietta Street struck an underground natural gas line. Nearby potentially impacted residences are being contacted by West Pierce Fire & Rescue. Crews have determined no evacuation is necessary. Puget Sound Energy is on scene to assess. Marietta Street, between Rigney Road and Division Lane Southwest, will soon be restored to limited vehicle access while repairs are underway. Please avoid the area and allow crews to complete the repair as quickly as possible.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, in partnership with the Steilacoom Department of Public Safety, will provide a community presentation regarding financial fraud awareness and prevention. These incidents are impactful and very costly to families throughout our community. However, there are ways to identify a scam and avoid becoming a victim. This week, officers responded to multiple reports of a vehicle driving through town after appearing to have been involved in a collision at an unknown location. When officers located the vehicle, following additional investigation, the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated. During the arrest, the driver used his body to resist being placed inside a police vehicle, to which officers ultimately used force to secure him inside. While awaiting processing, and without any apparent warning, the driver urinated throughout the rear seat of the police vehicle, temporarily rendering it unable to be used through the remainder of the officer’s shift. No injuries were reported by anyone involved and the driver was ultimately booked into jail. The amount of force used is considered by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission to be the level least likely to result in injuries to the person upon whom force was used or the officers involved.

ATTENTION DRIVERS: New JBLM Gate Procedures 🛑

JBLM drivers are now required to stop at posted stop signs prior to entering gates/access control points.

You must wait to be motioned forward by the gate guards, then proceed slowly to have your ID card scanned. Do not proceed forward into the access control point until directed to do so by the gate guards.

This additional procedure is being done to enhance overall installation security.
