Our society shares many dates and events which can be described as "Do you remember where you were when...?" For a great number of us September 11, 2001 was such a day. A day which shook the foundations of our nation, no matter how close or far you were geographically from Ground Zero.

On this day we remember and mourn those lost in the attacks on our country, their families left behind, and those who were left with lingering effects. We also remember those first responders who selflessly sacrificed themselves in the attempt to save lives. And we remember those service members who answered the call to fight against the agents of terror around our world, some making the ultimate sacrifice, and all bearing the scars both externally and internally. We stood with you all then, and still do today.

There is a saying: "the best way we can honor those lost on September 11 is to be the nation we were on September 12." 25 years later that statement is even more true.

On behalf of the City of Steelville, the employees, and elected officials, I encourage everyone to take this day to remember the past but look to the future. Let us be the best versions of ourselves that we can, and love and take care of one another. May God bless you all!
