Every year we take this day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. We can’t thank you enough.

On another topic, that has been brought up year after year, our local VFW Post has decided to put the flags up in Steelville on the actual first observed Memorial Day, which was on May 30th 1868, at the Arlington National Cemetery.

We will be monitoring the weather tonight due to it's unpredictability. Remember, the tornado sirens are there to warn you if there is a high probably of a tornado, usually we try to wait until we get the alert that there is rotation in our area. But may set them off if there is something in our neighboring towns.

We will always err on the side of safety first. We would rather deal with a little anger over serious injury from not being alerted. Hopefully this is just a bad storm and nothing serious comes from it.

On Friday April 24th, we got the honor of attending our recruit Brandon Schneider’s graduation from LETI. Brandon is a local recruit who really stood out during his interview portion.

We look forward to him starting his career in law enforcement with us.

Congrats Officer Schneider.

Finding the right words and expressing them are tough to do when it comes to making a post like this. Our hearts are with the Christian County Sheriff's Department as they deal with the line of duty deaths of 2 of their Deputies. Deputy Gabriel Ramirez and Deputy Michael Hislope answered the ultimate call to serve their communities.

Please keep the family, friends and the Christian County Sheriff's Department in your prayers as they navigate through this horrible time.

The weather forecast for this weekend is calling for snow. We will continue to have the community building open as a warming shelter during the hours of 8pm to 7am. Once again, we ask that you do not bring your pets to the shelter.

We would recommend that you give the State, County and City crews time to get the roads clear before venturing out, but if you feel you absolutely have to do it, please drive responsibly. In the event you get stuck, (which happens), slide off the road, (which also happens), or your vehicle breaks down, (once again happens), we have several tow companies that can help you at a cost, but be advised, they will be busy during this time and it may take a while to get to you. So dress warm, take snacks, a blanket and make sure your cell phone's are fully charged.

As always, please check on the elderly during this time. Make sure they have adequate heat and food.

Thanks in advance,
The Steelville Police Department
