Last Saturday we were alerted that another large tree branch came down. Thanks to volunteer Wendy and Tommy pitching in to cut it up. This would not have been without the help over the years by Team Rubicon letting us watch how they used chainsaws. Home Depot (Chris) directed us on the items needed to have on hand. HD has been great at giving supplies to help Friends of Midland to clean during the off months
Unfortunately, these two trees are rotting and will need to be removed soon. If you or a veteran need firewood please send us your contact information. When we cut them we will contact you.

Please join us at Historic Harrisburg Association on Monday, February 23rd at 6pm.

Join historians Calobe Jackson, Barbara Barksdale, and Elizabeth Jefferies at the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center (1230 N. 3rd St), two weeks from today on Monday, February 23rd at 6:00pm.

The program will cover the establishment of Negro History Week by Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950), who was the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and its evolution into the widely observed Black History Month of today.

For decades, Barbara Barksdale has tended to the needs of the historic Midland Cemetery in Dauphin County, a final resting place for thousands of African Americans, dating as far back as 1795.

“They call me the cemetery lady,” she says with just a hint of pride.
