Huge tree down in Lakeview Street, power lines are involved.. some folks are without power and Alabama power is aware... we ask that you be patient as the storm that passed through our town caused many trees to come down all over the county.... barricades are up for through traffic.... Don't go around the barricades.

Yesterday at approximately 8 pm Steele Fire was dispatched to a possible overdose with cpr in progress. Units were advised by dispatch that the nearest ambulance was 45+ minutes away. Engine 1 requested other ambulance companies be contacted to see if a closer unit was available. None were available. At this point Rainbow City Fire was contacted. Rescue 1 ( the City’s Ambulance) was dispatched and arrived on scene within 10 minutes to transport the patient.

Last month the City Of Rainbow City and The Town Of Steele entered into an automatic aid agreement for structure fires. Within the agreement it was requested that the use of Rainbow City’s ambulance be allowed in the event there are no county ambulances available. Both entities approved the agreement as written.

Strategic partnerships like this are vital to all communities. No single City,Town or County can operate on its own effectively. Each community has specific resources that others can benefit from and together we help make each other safer and more efficient. It’s not spreading resources too thin or leaving any one place unprotected. It’s bringing critical resources to bear when they are needed most.

We would like to thank the City of Rainbow City for their partnership and the Town Mayor and Council for their forethought and diligence in helping to keep our community safer.

Good morning all,

To address a rumor being told in regards to a recent fire. These rumors are false. Steele Fire Department still has volunteers and many of the same volunteers we’ve had for years. The time the fire took place was during normal working hours for the majority of our volunteers and they were unable to respond. So yes the paid guy on duty was alone. However, as the volunteers got off work they began to show up. In fact the building that caught fire was one of own members. We rely heavily on them and are proud of each and everyone of them. They have lives out side of the department and can’t make every call which is why it is called VOLUNTEERING. We have 10 active members as of this posting. If you would like to help out and boost our numbers we take applications all day every day. Thanks! Have a blessed and safe day!

STRUCTURE FIRE

Yesterday at approximately 3:26 pm Steele Fire, B - Shift was paged to a structure fire on Valley Drive. Upon arrival Engine 1 notified dispatch of a fully involved detached garage merely feet away from a residence. Assistant Chief Green being the only person on the truck deployed his line and began a quick and aggressive fire attack to protect the residence. He immediately requested mutual aid from Attalla Fire and Ashville Fire. Had it not been for the quick actions of Chief Green the damage could have been so much worse. We are thankful for our volunteers who came as quickly as they could, our mutual aid partners and officers (county and town). Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Please stay weather aware! 5 out of 5 is rare for our area. Don’t take it lightly. I know our feeds have been saturated with a lot of weather reports that have been wrong over the last year or so. This one seems different. It’s already heating up outside today and will continue to do so.
