Nothing says summer like firing up the grill at the station or at home. 🔥🍔 But before you serve up dinner, make sure you’re grilling safely.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, gas grills cause an average of more than 9,000 home fires every year. A grill placed too close to anything that can burn can quickly turn a cookout into an emergency.

SSFR received a $19,000 Firefighter Safety and Disease Prevention grant for personal protective equipment through the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control.

The funding will allow the department to equip four new firefighter trainees with complete personal protective equipment, including jackets, pants, particulate-blocking hoods, as well as leather boots and gloves.

Today, we observe National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day—a time to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

This year, we remember 204 firefighters who gave their lives protecting others, and we recognize those who continue to serve with courage, commitment, and pride.

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, communities nationwide will honor fallen firefighters during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Flags across the country will be lowered to half-staff in remembrance. This year, we honor 204 firefighters who gave their lives protecting their communities and those who continue to serve with courage.
