Routt County Conservation District

Routt County Conservation District The Routt County Conservation District (RCCD) represents one of seventy-six Colorado Conservation Districts.

Our Mission is to encourage stewardship of our natural resources which will ensure the preservation and sustainability of working landscapes through education, financial and technical assistance. All of Colorado’s Conservation Districts strive to provide leadership for the conservation of natural resources, and to ensure health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of the state through a re

sponsible conservation ethic. The Routt County Conservation District takes on the role of ensuring that landowners, including ranchers and farmers, recognize conservation as well as appropriate use of natural resources. RCCD places particular emphasis on the issues of weed management, and watershed issues. Other areas of work include soil erosion, wildlife habitat preservation and educational programs.

In our latest video, farmers and ranchers tell us why Colorado’s economy cannot withstand moving more water across the mountains. Some regions of the state have already been devastated from drained rivers. Agriculture is a critical part of our economy and we can’t afford to further drain our rivers. Tell Governor Hickenlooper that we cannot keep moving West Slope Water!

Once again, farmers and ranchers share their unique perspective on Colorado water and the water plan. Tell state policymakers NOW that we need a plan that protects our farms and ranchers by ensuring we are conserving water first. Watch and hear their perspective, then visit us at LINK to ensure your voice is heard! https://vimeo.com/131450901

What are YOUR ideas to protect farms and ranchers in the state water plan? Should we conserve water in urban areas first? Let us know in the comments, then visit us at LINK to tell state policymakers.
