Central Shenandoah Health District (CSHD) This is the official page for the Central Shenandoah Health District

The Central Shenandoah Health District is one of thirty five health districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia under the Virginia Department of Health. It encompasses the counties of Rockingham, Augusta, Rockbridge, Bath and Highland and the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Lexington and Buena Vista. There are a total of seven health departments serving an area of approximately 3,500 square miles and a population of approximately 293,000 citizens.

Did you know that on September 9th we are offering FREE STI testing down in Lexington? Join us at Rockbridge Area Community Services, 241 Greenhouse Rd, Lexington, VA 24450 from 10 am - 1 pm on 9/9 for free testing. No appointment, insurance, or ID required!

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, it is also the 25th year of this observance- and it's still needed.

While VA overdose rates are decreasing since their peak in 2021, awareness still matters. Free resources are available at your local health department including Naloxone (the only way to reverse an opioid overdose) and Fentanyl Test Strips.

The Staunton-Augusta Health Department is currently getting its roof replaced. Due to the construction, out of an abundance of safety for our clients, we have decided to move all clinical services to the Waynesboro-Augusta Health Department for the rest of August and for the month of September.

We appreciate your patience during this time. When services can return to the Staunton office, we will provide updates here and on our website. Information for the Waynesboro office can be found below:
