*UPDATE ON CITY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS*

The City of Staunton will begin work on the Main Street resurfacing project on Monday, February 23. The first phase of the project will begin at the intersection of Main and Elm Streets and proceed east on Main to Laurel Street. This phase of the project will most likely continue until the end of April, and at that time, future phases will begin. Please note that all businesses in the construction area will be open during this time. Detour signs will be posted and the City asks that you please observe them during the duration of the project. Questions regarding this project can be directed to Mayor Craig Neuhaus (618-580-4791) and Alderman Terry Tipler (618-781-1638).

Regarding the North Street Bridge Replacement Project, due to unforeseen circumstances, the completion of the project has been delayed until the end of March. The City apologizes for any inconveniences this has caused, but we thank you for your understanding.

Public Meeting on Energy Transition Community Grant Projects

Monday, December 8 • 5:30 p.m. • Ralph & Josephine Oltmann Community Center

The City of Staunton will hold a public meeting on Monday, December 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ralph & Josephine Oltmann Community Center to share information about regional applications to the Illinois Energy Transition Community Grant (ETCG) Program. Community members are encouraged to attend, learn about the program, and offer input on project priorities.

Through the ETCG Program, the State of Illinois supports communities navigating the energy transition by investing in infrastructure, public facilities, safety services, community spaces, and local economic recovery.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has awarded Staunton and its partners $412,418.90. Staunton is the lead applicant, working with Staunton Township, Staunton CUSD #6, Staunton Fire Protection District, Staunton Area Ambulance Service, and the Staunton Public Library.

Partners are preparing coordinated proposals that may include infrastructure repairs, equipment upgrades, career and technical education improvements, building renovations, library modernization, and emergency services equipment. These projects aim to strengthen public facilities, enhance safety, and support long-term community resilience.

All residents are welcome. Public input at this meeting will help shape the final proposals submitted to the State of Illinois.
