Some birthdays come with a little extra meaning. ✨

We asked students a simple question: What’s a cultural tradition that means a lot to you?

Her answer: quinceañeras, a milestone birthday for girls in Latin American cultures. The celebration is big, but the meaning is even bigger.

We’re kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with a student’s take on a tradition close to her heart.

What’s a family tradition close to yours?

A big thank you to Greg Hill, Tom McMillion, Allen Daughtrey, Cody Campbell, Heather Curry, and Johnny Jackson for keeping our networks running and devices working during the school year!💻

For more than 50 years, the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association has carried forward the legacy of Staunton’s historic Booker T. Washington High School, investing in young people and strengthening our community. 💛

And that LEGACY continues!

🎓 CONGRATULATIONS to 2026 Staunton High School graduates Aayden Williams (top left), recipient of the Association’s four-year scholarship, who is attending James Madison University to study business finance and accounting, and Dimitri Howard (top right), recipient of the Big Dogg Rider Scholarship, who is attending Virginia State University to study commercial aviation with plans to become a pilot.

We were also proud to see members of our SHS African American Culture Club give back by volunteering at the Association’s scholarship dinner this weekend! There’s something special about seeing young people serve alongside those who helped pave the way for them.

THANK YOU, Booker T. Washington Alumni Association, for all you have done and continue to do for Staunton and its students. ✨

September is Attendance Awareness Month! 📚

Success in school starts with showing up. Every day in class gives students another opportunity to learn, grow, connect with their teachers and classmates, and stay on track toward graduation.

Every day counts, and every day in school is one step closer to graduation! 🎓

14 grants. Big ideas coming to life. 🙌

The Valley Alliance for Education just awarded 14 Creative Classroom Grants to SCS staff!

These grants help educators bring to life opportunities that can make learning memorable: hands-on projects, new classroom resources, technology, arts experiences and other creative ideas that may fall outside a typical school budget.

Congratulations to our SCS recipients, and thank you, VAE, for investing in great ideas for our students!

Happy Friday, SCS!

Week 2 is in the books, and we'd love to hear who deserves a shoutout.

Did a teacher make your child feel welcome? A student or parent who showed kindness? A bus driver, cafeteria staff member, custodian, coach, or any staff member who made your week a little better?

Share what they did in the comments below. 👇 Let’s spread some love around SCS! 💛
