Schools No Longer Eligible for CEP

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Iredell-Statesville Schools would like to make you aware of an important change regarding school meal benefits for the 2026-2027 school year.

As part of the annual Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) recertification process, the district experienced a significant decline in its Identified Student Percentage (ISP), which is based on the number of students directly certified through programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF benefits. As a result, your child's school no longer qualifies to participate in CEP for the 2026-2027 school year.

The following schools will not participate in CEP during the 2026-2027 school year:
Central Elementary School
Cool Spring Elementary School
North Iredell High School
North Iredell Middle School
Oakwood Middle School
Shepherd Elementary School
Troutman Elementary School
Troutman Middle School
To help provide families with time to complete the necessary paperwork, students who were enrolled at one of these schools during the 2025-2026 school year will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at no charge for the first 30 operating days of the 2026-2027 school year, or until a Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application has been submitted and processed.

Please note:
Applications for Free and Reduced-Price Meals cannot be submitted until after July 15, 2026.
This temporary carryover benefit applies only to students who attended one of the schools listed above during the 2025-2026 school year.
The carryover benefit does not apply to kindergarten students or students transferring from another district or school
We strongly encourage families who believe they may qualify for meal benefits to complete an application as soon as applications become available after July 15, 2026. Additional information about applying for meal benefits will be shared by the district during the summer.

We recognize this change may create questions for families and appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have questions regarding meal benefits or the application process, please contact the School Nutrition Department at 704-873-2175.

Oakwood Middle Celebrates Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, marking a powerful moment in U.S. history. Today, as a national holiday, it is celebrated through reflection, education, cultural events, music, food, and community gatherings that honor Black freedom, resilience, and achievement. At Oakwood Middle, we recognize Juneteenth as a reflection of IB philosophies by fostering global awareness, promoting inquiry into history and justice, and encouraging respect, empathy, and action toward creating a more equitable world.

Throughout June, Oakwood Middle is celebrating Black Music Month by pairing influential songs that shaped our culture with poignant picture books that reflect the same powerful themes. June 2, 1996, the number one Hip Hop song was “Tha Crossroads” by Bone Thugs-in-Harmony. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Tha Crossroads and story The Heart and the Bottle both explore the pain of loss and the journey of carrying loved ones with us through memories, love, and hope. Together, they remind us that while grief can change us, the people we cherish continue to shape our lives long after they are gone.
