A rare opportunity today in our Statesboro office!
All four county clerks were able to stop by our office. Many of our staff interact with them weekly, but many had never had face-to-face introductions with each other. Thanks for stopping by and for being great partners in our work!

This week, our office had the opportunity to support training efforts with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office with a class on Advanced Report Writing as part of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Senior Deputy Certification Program.

The course was instructed by Investigator Ryan McNeal, a Senior POST Instructor, with assistance from ADA Chase Carnes.

Over the course of this two-day class, participants focused on strengthening report writing skills and reinforcing the importance of clear, thorough, and professional documentation in law enforcement.

Thank you to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office for the opportunity to collaborate and invest in continued professional development.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding over the last couple of weeks as our Office has continued navigating an extraordinary period of transition while remaining focused on serving the communities of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit.

While this update comes outside of our typical timeline for sharing case outcomes, we still wanted to ensure the public received an update on this matter, as we strive to do with all major cases prosecuted by our Office.

Attached is a release regarding the conclusion and sentencing in the Jenkins County case involving the March 2024 shooting deaths of Tyrell Brown and Maxine Jones at the Annie F. Chance Veterans Center in Millen. The case was prosecuted by our Major Crimes team with Jillian Gibson serving as lead and Renorda Herring as second.

We remain grateful to the jurors, law enforcement agencies, court personnel, and all those who contributed to bringing this case to resolution.

Thank you again for your continued patience, support, and understanding.

We continue to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, kindness, and support shown to our office and, most importantly, to Robert’s wife, their three boys, and the entire Busbee family during this incredibly difficult time.

Our office remains committed to honoring Robert’s legacy and continuing the work and service he cared so deeply about.

Please continue to keep the Busbee family, our staff, and all those impacted by this loss in your thoughts and prayers.

We our proud that one of our Victim Advocates, Amber Foss, was able to attend this valuable training the last 2 days! We hope it helped build not only her skills, but that she can share those insights with her team. Can't wait to hear all about it when she returns!

Today is the last day of NOVA's Advanced Crisis Response Team Training! Similar to the Basic CRT training offered annually through PAC, this 24-hour course is packed with essential protocols that prepare attendees to respond effectively in times of mass-casualty crisis.

Over the past few days, participants explored the impact of trauma, team deployment strategies, and best practices for working with the media.

We’re always grateful for the opportunity to partner with NOVA, and we look forward to continuing this important work together!
