Subject: Chromebook Use and Collection Update
Dear Families,
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we want to give you an important update about your child's school Chromebook.
Beginning Tuesday, May 26, Chromebooks for all students in grades K-4 will remain at school each day and this will continue throughout the 2026-2027 school year. They will be stored securely in a classroom cart and used only during the school day.
In making this decision, we reviewed current research on technology use for younger learners and listened carefully to parent feedback. Keeping devices at school supports healthy limits around screen time, reduces the risk of damage or loss, and helps ensure student safety.
Beginning before the end of the year also helps our district‑wide plan to collect and prepare all 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade Chromebooks for the upcoming school year. Each device will be inspected, serviced as needed, and made ready for school to begin in August.
Summary:
Chromebooks for all K-4 classes will now stay in the classrooms.
5th grade students will receive a new Chromebook at the start of school and will be able to take them home.
Students will continue to use their Chromebooks during the school day as needed.
Over the summer, a district team will be reviewing classroom expectations and appropriate usage to ensure Chromebooks support learning in developmentally appropriate ways.
Check at home for any school-issued chargers or cases and return them.
Please make sure your child’s Chromebook and charger come back to school on May 26.
Thank you for your understanding and support with this update. If you have any questions, please contact your child's school office.
Sincerely,
Danielle Yoder - Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education
Justin Hetrick - Information Technology Officer
