⚡Summer is a great time to be outdoors, but if thunderstorms are in the forecast, have a plan to get to safety. Each year in the United States, thunderstorms produce 20-25 million lightning flashes that strike the ground, killing an average of 20+ people and injuring hundreds more - often in devastating and permanent ways.

Mon - June 22, 2026 @ 6AM EDT: Low pressure moving northeast out of the Ohio Valley and a warm front lifting slowly north into Central PA by late today will bring periods of rain and scattered strong to potentially severe thunderstorms this afternoon in the warm and humid airmass across the Southern Half of the state. The image loop here shows model simulation of the heavier showers (dark gray circles) and the tracks of rotating updrafts accompanying the stronger storms.

Sun - June 21, 2026 @ 6 AM EDT: We'll have pleasant weather to end the holiday weekend with comfortably warm temperatures, low humidity and plenty of sun. Humidity will significantly increase late tonight and Monday as a strong southerly flow develops ahead of low pressure headed our way from the Midwest. In additional to periods of steady rain, the risk for severe thunderstorms will develop across the Southeastern half of the state. There will also be a tornado threat with the stronger storms. A more southern track to the area of low pressure would decrease the region where severe thunderstorms are possible.

540 PM Saturday June 20th, 2026: After several days of showers and storms, a nice Sunday is in store for central PA.
