What did the tree say after it got through April 1st prank-free? That was a re-leaf!

Well, you can sigh a breath of relief because you haven’t been pranked. We have been telling you that the April Fools Gala would not be happening all along. This non-event is designed to be a special event you DON’T come to so that 100% of your donation CAN go to directly to supporting the following IHS programs for low-income families and individuals:

* Centre County Fuel Bank
* Emergency Vehicle Repair
* Financial Care
* Furniture and Appliance Recycling

Here are some stories of how our programs have helped individuals and families in our community:

A young adult male who recently immigrated to the U.S. from Ukraine is self-employed as a contractor and handyman. Unable to afford to pay his insurance premium and make some essential repairs to his vehicle, his brother-in-law contacted IHS, advocated for him, and interpreted during his interview. With his assistance, we provided the young man with safety and security to drive to work.

Another client was referred to IHS through the Office of Adult Services. It was reported that he was being exploited by his live-in granddaughter. She would steal money from his bank account and use his credit card without his consent. Before working with one of our case managers, he did not make any mortgage or property tax payments. Our staff was able to work with the county and township to implement a payment plan. He now budgets his monthly spending money and does not need to ask for more.

Your absence is requested at The 7th Annual April Fool's Day Gala on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The event is imaginary, but the need is real!

Since this is a non-event that will occur only in your head, 100% of your gift will go directly to support the following IHS programs for low-income families and individuals:

Centre County Fuel Bank
Emergency Vehicle Repair
Financial Care
Furniture and Appliance Recycling

Here are some stories of how our programs have helped individuals and families in our community:

Late last year, a man was referred to the Free Furniture Program from the homeless shelter, Out of the Cold. He had obtained a senior apartment, but he needed help furnishing it. We were able to provide a bed, dining table and chairs, a recliner, and a couch. The Free Furniture and Appliance Recycling Program turned his empty apartment into a comfortable home.

Another gentleman was referred to the IHS Representative Payee Program from Adult Services. Before working with our program, he had been homeless. His caseworker collaborated with Housing Transitions to ensure a stable living environment and helped the client to develop a sustainable monthly spending budget.

If these sound like the kinds of services you would like to support, please stay home on April 1st. Relax and take a moment to support Interfaith Human Services’ much-needed programs.
