Nominate a strong advocate of women's leadership for the ATHENA Champion Leadership Award, presented by Penn Highlands Healthcare, at the 2026 Centre County Business Awards.

This award, presented in partnership with ATHENA International, honors those who uplift and empower women in leadership. Consider who has shown up, demonstrated leadership, and made an impact. Your nomination is how this community spotlights excellence and inspires what's possible in Centre County.

“What an incredible blessing to be nominated and honored with an award that holds so much meaning. There are many Athena women in our community I count as friends and mentors! This award, established in 1982, is a reminder that our labor isn’t invisible.” Said last year’s honoree, Rebecca Farmer Force.
Nominations are open through August 21 at cbicc.org/nominate.

Save the date for the celebration on Wednesday, October 21 at Nittany Lion Inn.

Last week, Melissa Roth, CBICC Director of Membership had the honor of graduating from Leadership Centre County.

Read more about her experience below!

"I can't believe it's been 10 months already! Last week, I had the honor of graduating from Leadership Centre County.

As the membership director for CBICC I spend a lot of time thinking about community and building connections, and my LCC experience reinforced something I continue to see and seriously appreciate about Centre County: strong communities are built through relationships. Over the past 10 months, I had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges, opportunities, people and organizations that make Centre County such a special place.

I had the chance to get to know an incredible group of leaders ( and now friends ) from all over our community. The connections and friendships I made throughout this program are something I will carry with me long after graduation.

Thank you to the Leadership Centre County staff, board members, program day sponsors, presenters, volunteers, alumni, and the countless community leaders who shared their time, knowledge, and experiences with our class.
Also a huge Thank You to my classmates—the "Best Class Ever"—for the laughs ( too many to count ), thoughtful discussions, and inspiration throughout the past 10 months.

Leadership Centre County was founded through a partnership that included the CBICC, and seeing firsthand how the program continues to connect and develop leaders for our community made me even more appreciative of its impact. Leadership is not about having all the answers; it's about listening, learning, building relationships, and showing up for your community.

I am so thankful for the experience, the friendships, and the opportunity to be part of the Leadership Centre County alumni family!"

-Melissa Roth, Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County Director of Membership

Last week, CBICC joined Step by Step School for Early Learning and the PennAEYC Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children, Centre County United Way , and the Centre County Childcare Crisis Coalition for a meeting with State Rep. Paul Takac on the importance of investing in the childcare workforce.

CBICC VP of Economic Development Todd Dolbin spoke on behalf of the over 80 chambers and economic development organizations across Pennsylvania that recognize childcare as part of the workforce infrastructure our economy depends on.

New ReadyNation Pennsylvania data shows that gaps in the state's childcare system cost the Commonwealth roughly $6.4 billion annually through lost earnings, lost productivity, and added hiring costs for employers.

When working parents can find reliable care, they stay in the workforce, and employers gain stability to operate and grow. Continued investment in childcare teacher recruitment and retention strengthens our workforce and our economy.
