Oktibbeha County Residents,

Please be advised that the entire state of Mississippi is under a severe weather threat beginning this evening, Sunday, March 15. The primary window for this activity is expected between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, lasting through the early morning hours of Monday, March 16.

The following conditions are possible:

- Severe storms
- Damaging winds up to 70 mph
- Quarter-sized hail
- Tornadoes

Because damaging winds are the highest risk, please treat all thunderstorm warnings as you would tornado warnings this evening. Straight-line winds can be as destructive as tornadoes; given the saturated ground and weakened trees, downed power poles are anticipated and widespread outages.

Please remain weather-aware, identify a designated safe location, and ensure you have a way to receive emergency alerts that does not depend on home power. Remember to charge your devices now.

FYI. With tonight's coldest weather of the year moving in, firefighters suggest turning on your electric heat before bed if you haven't had it serviced or turned it on yet. This will burn off the dust bunnies on the heating elements, causing a temporary burning smell 🔥.

East VFD has 6 new certified volunteers who are proud of their accomplishments in the 80 plus hours program at night after their MSU college classes. They put in the extra hours of training while also responding to calls. Their instructor is pretty sharp. Chance Cummings also started his career with EOVFD many moons ago.

Member spotlight. Brad Barr from Four County Electric came to the station to cover the recent award the EOVFD got from the Four County Foundation and was impressed that we had several female College members and began talking with Kailyn and did a short story.
EOVFD has had several female college students over the years and they all have contributed their hard work towards helping the community in the times of need

Not the way we wanted to start the day. At 2am, a report came in that a two-story house was fully involved, with a person unaccounted for. Starkville City Fire, along with Bell School House and Dist 5, responded to the call. By the time the first firefighter arrived, more than half of the house was gone. Sadly, the homeowner was found deceased around 6am. Please keep the family in your prayers.
