Last week, Starkville High English Teacher, Courtney Honnoll was honored as the Rotary Teacher of the Month by Starkville Rotary Club. Mrs. Honnoll is an award-winning teacher who was honored as the SOCSD district-wide Teacher of the Year for 2026. As part of the Rotary recognition, Ms. Honnoll was able to select two students as Students of the Month for their excellence in representing SHS. She chose Josiah Palmer and Ali Sarrette. Photos to follow, but hear from Mrs. Honnoll about why she chose to honor these outstanding juniors along with a few comments from Josiah about what makes her a great teacher.

Congratulations to Mrs. Honnoll, Josiah and Ali! We're proud of you!

On Friday evening at halftime, we will crown the 2026 Homecoming Queen and King from among this outstanding group of students! We visited the beautiful The Hill and Moor to capture photos of the Court this year. Take a peek through the set and congratulate these Jackets for representing their graduating class, our school and community.

Hill and Moor is the renovated site of the former Moor High School, and we are proud to showcase the space and its historic connection to Jacket Town. Thank you for opening your doors to the 2026 SHS Homecoming court!

Our second student photographer this fall is bringing his artistic eye to the sidelines at Yellow Jacket Stadium. SHS Senior, Rowan Seltzer-Hill, is an internationally award-winning photographer through his studies with Starkville High visual arts instructor, Andrew Lark. He is also a CTE completer in the Unmanned Aviation program and a member of the varsity Jacket Archery team. During his senior year, he is participating in our work-based learning program on an entrepreneurship track, where he is exploring the launch of a freelance photography business. As part of the program, he is working with SOCSD Communications to provide gameday content.

Take a look at Rowan’s unique eye in this first set of photos!

In our coverage of Jacket Football this season, SHS is proud to highlight TWO outstanding student photographers who are providing gameday content this year! First, you may have seen SHS sophomore, Reed Sparks, on the diamond at Carlisle Stadium, but this fall, he's walking the sidelines and embedded with our football team at home and a few road games, providing an insider view of the action. Take a look at his first captures of the season from Friday's West Point victory, and give a shout out to Reed on his excellent work!

Our student photographers are working with SOCSD Communications to improve their craft and gain experience in sports photography and entrepreneurship with the goal of starting and growing their own photography businesses. We are proud of their work and excited to mentor them in this season's learning adventures! Go Jackets!
