A Dedication to the Firefighters, Officers, Officials, and Commissioners of Fire District 20; 1960-1996. The agency existed through 1997, and the list of active members likely did not change much from the 1996 roll call; the officers and commissioners remained consistent.

RETIRED: The last Fire Chief of Fire District 20 has retired from the fire service, as of May 1, 2023. Darryl Neuhoff served as Fire Chief from 1987 to 1998, a period of about 10 1/2 years. He was the agencies only recognized full time/career Fire Chief. Upon consolidation into the Marysville Fire District, Chief Neuhoff took on the role of a Deputy Chief within the Marysville Fire District. He held that position until mid 2022 when he agreed to take on the responsibilities of Fire Chief, until a search could be completed to find a new Fire Chief. In February of 2023, Chief Vander Pol assumed the office of the Fire Chief, and Chief Neuhoff stayed on as a consultant through the Month of March. Chief Neuhoff took the month of April 2023 off under vacation use, and officially separated from employment as of May 1, 2023. He is the last member of Fire District 20, still working at Marysville Fire, that was active at the time of the merger with MFD.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the loss of another past member of Snohomish County Fire District 20 / Lake Goodwin Fire Department. Mark Shinkle started as a volunteer firefighter in 1994 and continued through the departments consolidation with the Marysville Fire District in 1998. He continued for a number of years as a Marysville Fire District firefighter after the consolidation.

During Marks tenure with the Fire District 20, he became involved in the fire apparatus construction and sales business. He continued in this profession, racking up many satisfied customers and delivering many emergency fire vehicles to both local and regional fire departments.

It appears Mark passed suddenly and unexpectedly. Though his legacy and friendship will live on, he will be missed by all who knew him.

One more from an an era long since gone, but not yet forgotten. Scott was an avid participant with emergency services in north Snohomish County. His presence was felt by many Fire District 20 citizens as both a member of Cascade Valley Ambulance and as a Firefighter with FPD 20! The common theme to Scott’s years is one of care and help to his community. As a well respected member of Arlington Fire, he has earned his retirement many times over.

We honor Scott on his long illustrious career and dedication to others before self. Well done Scott!

SCFD 20, or the Lake Goodwin Fire Department, consolidated into the Marysville Fire District on January 1, 1998. January 1, 2018, will mark the 20th anniversary of that combining of resources. The communities of the participating agencies (city of Marysville, Fire District 12, and Fire District 20) all received better and more efficient fire service as a result. SCFD 20 had to disappear for the greater good; the fire department was there for the citizens, not the other way around. When the citizens were better served by the loss of an agency, the agency had to go.

So on New Years Eve, raise a toast to that fine organization that ended itself for the betterment of its community. Dilly dilly, FPD 20!

As it was coming to fruition... and a play on a old commercial; Big Mac Attack turned into Big Mack Attack! Originally designed to hold around 3800 gallons or water it was later reduced to approximately 3000 gallons of water to ensure road and chassis weight restrictions were not limited. T-65 or as it was originally known; 20-31. The pump was powered by a 4 cylinder diesel VW Rabbit engine, which until a separate cooling system was incorporated, had a habit of overheating. Still, it was quite the beast.

Also note the interior of the office area of the station. How times have changed.

Kitchen fire... only it was in the wall, then the ceiling/floor between floor 1 and 2, then in the side attic area of floor 2, then the entire 2nd floor. Then the first floor burned through...

The next month every volunteer firefighter in the department was enrolled in a 3 month college level class on fire suppression tactics and strategy...

Fire District 20 was not part of the Stanwood, FPD 14, 18, 19 'group' but we were invited to participate for the first time in 1987. So many young faces... so long ago.
