Our incredible community partners stepped up again this year, opening their doors and welcoming students from our Adult Transition Program!

This program serves young adults ages 18-22 who have completed high school but continue receiving special education services as they prepare for greater independence in adulthood. Through community-based job experiences, students build workplace skills, confidence, social connections, and everyday life skills.

Students recently presented plaques to our incredible community partners who welcomed them into their workplaces this school year:

👏 Camano Center
👏 2nd Chance Thrift Store
👏 Warm Beach Camp & Conference Center
👏 Stanwood-Camano YMCA
👏 Meyer Art Center (formerly SCAAC)
👏 The Caring Place
👏 Box of Good
👏 Grocery Outlet
👏 Stanwood Camano Food Bank & Thrift Store
👏 Ace Hardware Stanwood

These community partnerships are invaluable in helping our students explore careers, practice job skills, and discover what’s possible beyond the classroom.

We’re always looking for additional businesses and organizations interested in hosting an Adult Transition Program student. Whether it’s helping with customer service, organization, maintenance, food service, office tasks, or other meaningful work, your organization can play a role in helping students take the next step toward independence.

Interested in becoming a partner? Learn more about our Adult Transition Program on our webpage at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/transition or email Sara Stiers, our Transition Specialist/Job Developer, at [email protected].

Stanwood Middle School woodshop students recently put their skills to the test through a STEAM project inspired by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Wright was known for his geometric designs, natural materials, and earthy color palettes all inspired by the landscapes surrounding his buildings. Students applied those same design principles as they measured, cut, sanded, assembled, and finished individual pieces of wood to create their own abstract works of art.

The project combined the precision of woodworking with the creativity of art and the problem-solving of engineering.

Experiences like this showcase the strength of our Career and Technical Education programs, where students gain hands-on skills, explore potential career pathways, and discover new ways to turn creativity into craftsmanship. Learn more about our robust CTE program here: cte.stanwood.wednet.edu

This fun project reflects our strategic plan commitment to empowering students through engaging, real-world learning experiences that help them develop the skills for life beyond school!

Music made its way across the district this week!

Our Port Susan and Stanwood middle school band students hit the road this week, bringing the sounds of the band program directly to our elementary schools.

Through performances, instrument demonstrations, and a chance to see middle school musicians in action, elementary students got an exciting preview of the opportunities waiting for them at middle school.

The tour is a fun tradition that inspires our future musicians while giving current band students a chance to share their talents and love of music.

It’s a great example of our commitment to ensuring every student is empowered to discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and build a sense of belonging.
