FY27 Budget Update for Stantonsburg Residents

At the June 8 meeting, the Stantonsburg Town Council voted to approve the FY27 Budget.

This budget includes a 5% increase for water, sewer, and electric usage rates in order to remain aligned with CPI and the rising costs associated with providing essential utility services. The base rate will remain neutral, with no increase.

At the same time, the FY27 Budget provides meaningful tax relief for our residents. The Town’s property tax rate will be reduced from $0.45 to $0.30 per $100 valuation.

This adjustment reflects the Town’s effort to carefully balance financial responsibility, essential service needs, and the impact on residents. By reducing the tax rate, the Town is working to provide meaningful relief while continuing to invest in the services and infrastructure that support our community.

We appreciate the continued support of our residents as we work to maintain reliable services, improve infrastructure, and move Stantonsburg forward in a fiscally responsible way.

Good morning Stantonsburg.

🌧️ Hurricane Season Preparedness Reminder 🌧️

Hurricane season is here, and now is the time to take simple steps to help protect your property, your family, and your neighborhood before severe weather arrives.

Here are a few general items to consider:

✅ Clear Debris
Clean gutters and downspouts regularly so heavy rains can drain properly and help reduce the risk of foundation flooding.

✅ Trim Trees
Cut back or remove dead, diseased, or overhanging branches that could fall onto your roof, vehicles, power lines, or nearby structures during high winds.

✅ Secure Loose Items
Any unsecured object can become a dangerous projectile during a storm. Please anchor outdoor fuel tanks and bring in patio furniture, grills, bikes, garbage cans, and other loose items.

✅ Maintain Lawns and Drainage Areas
During the warmer months, lawns often need to be maintained more frequently. Please make sure your grass is cut and that drainage ditches, driveway tiles, culverts, and other drainage areas remain clear so water can flow freely without obstruction.

📞 Report Concerns to the Town
If you notice blocked drainage ditches, clogged driveway tiles, fallen limbs, unsafe debris, flooding concerns, or other storm-related issues, please contact Town Hall so staff can review the concern and respond as appropriate.

Taking these steps now can make a major difference when heavy rain and strong winds arrive. Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe and prepared.

Heads up, Stantonsburg neighbors — the Town is flushing water lines on Sand Pit Road.

If you live in or around that area, you may notice temporary water discoloration or a short drop in water pressure while crews are working. This is normal and should clear up quickly.

Hydrant flushing helps keep our water system working properly and supports good water quality throughout town.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while this work is being completed. If you have any questions, please contact Town Hall

Keep in mind you may need to flush your own water lines to clear up the water.

How to Clear Your Lines: Run a cold-water tap (preferably an outdoor spigot or basement tub) at full force for 10 to 15 minutes until the water runs completely clear.
