đźš‘ Help Us Help You! đźš‘

In an emergency, every second matters. One of the simplest ways to help emergency responders find you quickly is by making sure your address is clearly marked and visible from the road.

✔️ Use large, easy-to-read numbers
✔️ Keep address markers free from trees, bushes, and other obstructions
✔️ Make sure numbers are visible both day and night

When you call 911, a clearly visible address can save valuable time and help us get to you faster when every second counts.

As many of you know, Powell County EMS was officially established on July 1, 2000, when Hearne’s Ambulance Service and Wells Ambulance Service ceased operations and Powell County assumed responsibility for providing emergency medical services to our community. During the time that the funeral homes offered ambulance services, their is one documented line of duty death that we feel we cannot forget to mention on this day of remembrance. EMT Michael Wayne Carpenter who was employed by Hearne’s Ambulance Service was killed in the line of duty in a traffic collision involving the ambulance he was traveling in, while transporting a patient to Mary Chiles Hospital (now Saint Joseph Mount Sterling). We spoke with his daughter today and asked her to share a bio of her father. She said:

Michael Wayne Carpenter was born on January 17, 1955. He dedicated his life to serving others through his work in emergency medical services, always answering the call when his community needed him most. Known for his compassion, hard work, and willingness to help anyone in need, Michael made a lasting impact on the lives of many through his service with local EMS.
On December 2, 1994, Michael tragically passed away while on a service call, doing the very work he cared so deeply about. His dedication and sacrifice reflect a life committed to helping others, and his memory continues to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Saturday of EMS Week is about remembrance. Powell County EMS has grown so much as an agency over the past 26 years. We know now that we walk in the footsteps of so many great men and women who came before us. Through the efforts and dedication of so many, past and present, we now have a modern EMS system that provides advanced, compassionate care to our community every day.

Today, we honor those who helped build this service from the ground up, those who answered the calls before us, and those whose commitment and sacrifice shaped Powell County EMS into what it is today. As we remember our past, we remain dedicated to carrying their legacy forward by serving our community with pride, professionalism, and excellence.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Powell County EMS family—past, present, and future. 💙🚑

🚑 EMS Week – Save A Life Day 🚑

Today, we recognize Save A Life Day during EMS Week and encourage everyone to learn simple skills that can save a life in an emergency.

❤️ Hands-Only CPR can help keep blood flowing to the brain and vital organs when someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest. If a person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives.

🩸 Stop The Bleed teaches lifesaving techniques to control severe bleeding. Applying direct pressure with your hands, gauze, or a clean cloth can help prevent life-threatening blood loss while waiting for emergency responders.

By learning these skills, you can make a difference when seconds count. Together, we can build a safer community and improve outcomes for those in need.
