🇺🇸 9/11 MEMORIAL FLAG RUN 🇺🇸FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th🇺🇸

This September 11th, our community will once again come together to remember, honor, and never forget.

Local Veteran and community member, Kevin Moses has organized a 9.11-mile Memorial Flag Run from the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department in remembrance of the lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and all those forever impacted by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

⚠️ PLEASE PLAN AHEAD NEXT FRIDAY ⚠️

Motorists traveling through Stanley (along E Main St, Stanley and 340 Business) on the route toward Luray on the morning of September 11th should expect runners, support vehicles, temporary traffic interruptions, and possible delays beginning around 8:45 AM until approximately 11:30 AM.

Please allow additional travel time, consider an alternate route when possible, slow down, remain alert, and give the runners plenty of room. We appreciate everyone’s patience as they travel through our community.

The run will begin at 8:46 AM, marking the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The 9.11-mile route will include meaningful stops at:

🇺🇸 Stanley Elementary School - sharing the significance of September 11 with the next generation and honoring the courage of the first responders and everyday Americans who answered the call.

🇺🇸 Ed Good Memorial Park - pausing at Stanley’s 9/11 memorial, which includes a piece of steel recovered from Ground Zero.

🇺🇸 Antioch Independent Bible Church - where the special 9/11 flag carried by the runners will be raised to half-staff in remembrance.

🇺🇸 Luray Volunteer Fire Department - where the run will conclude with the American Flag being presented to firefighters gathered to receive the Colors.

Twenty-five years later, the responsibility to remember belongs to all of us.

On September 11th, fly your flag. Step outside. Encourage the runners. Talk to your children about why this day matters.

May we remember those we lost, honor those who ran toward danger, and never forget the way Americans stood together in the days that followed.

PCPS SAFETY UPDATE:
Law enforcement has reviewed the concern that prompted PCPS to implement a precautionary low-level lockdown earlier today and has advised that the additional precautions are no longer necessary.
The low-level lockdown has been lifted, and all PCPS schools are resuming normal operations. All school activities may resume as planned.
We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our students, staff, and families and thank our local law enforcement partners for their continued support.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

Today, we pause to remember and honor Officer Dominic “Nick” Winum on his birthday.

Nick’s service, character, and dedication left a lasting impact on the Stanley Police Department and throughout Page County. His life was defined by far more than the uniform he wore. It was defined by the people he served, the relationships he built, and the difference he made in our community.

Though years continue to pass, Nick is not forgotten. His legacy remains part of who we are, and we remain grateful for his service, his friendship, and the sacrifices made by Nick and his family.

Today, we remember his life and celebrate the person behind the badge.

Happy Birthday, Nick. We will never forget you. 💙

Saturation Saturday may be over, but the responsibility to prevent impaired driving continues every day.

Thank you to everyone who made a plan, designated a sober driver, gave someone a ride, took the keys, or simply made the decision not to drive impaired.

Stanley Police Department is proud to partner with MADD Virginia in promoting safer roads.

Getting home safely will always be worth the extra effort.

Today, Stanley Police Department joins MADD Virginia and law enforcement agencies across the country in reminding drivers:

Impaired driving is preventable.

Our officers will be out working to keep our roads and community safe.

Enjoy your Saturday. Have fun. Look out for one another. And if you’ve been drinking or are otherwise impaired, don’t drive.

One decision can change everything.

🔑 Would you take the keys?

Sometimes preventing impaired driving means being the friend who speaks up.

If someone you care about is impaired, don’t let them drive. Offer them a ride, help arrange one, or take the keys if you can do so safely.

They might not thank you tonight. They may have a lifetime to thank you later.

The buses are rolling, backpacks are packed, and a new school year is underway! Whether your students are heading into a classroom, learning at home, or doing a little of both, Stanley Police Department wishes all of our local students and families a safe and successful school year!

As everyone settles into new routines, remember that our roads and neighborhoods may look a little different:

🛑 Watch for stopped school buses and flashing lights.
🚸 Be alert for children walking or crossing the roadway.
📵 Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
🐢 Slow down, especially near schools, bus stops, neighborhoods, parks, and other places children may be learning, playing, or gathering.

And while school buses and school zones get plenty of attention this time of year, not every student starts their school day by getting on a bus. Our homeschool students may be out in the community for lessons, activities, field trips, library visits, or simply enjoying a different school-day schedule. A little extra awareness helps keep all of Stanley’s kids safe.

You’ll see our officers out helping with school traffic and keeping an eye on things as everyone gets back into the routine.

To our Tigers, all of PCPS, homeschoolers, private school learners and everyone beginning a new year of learning, we hope it’s a great one!

Alcohol isn’t the only thing that can impair your ability to drive.
