Stanhope Environmental Commission's annual clean up was a success this past weekend. 42 volunteers showed up to help the community. We collected over 30 bags of garbage/recyclables, a car battery, and some rusted parts of a carousel, and an old wheelbarrow.

Thank you to Scout Troop 91, Cub Scout Troop 151, LVRHS Go Green Club, and Stanhope Presbyterian Church for participating in the event.

Also a special thank you Bell's Mansion for providing food to the volunteers.

Taking care of our community is always the priority.

Stanhope DPW is ready to go. All equipment, staff and salt are prepped.

If we get the 18 to 24+ inches, it will likely make travel impossible and the clean up process may be slow to maintain safety.

Nixles will be going out to keep residents updated.

Stay safe and warm.
❄️❄️❄️

New Jersey, the entire state is now under a blizzard warning – for the first time in 30 years.

This could be the worst storm we have seen since 1996.

We’re tough, but we also need to be safe. Here is how we are preparing:
✅A State of Emergency is now in effect in all 21 counties
✅A commercial vehicle ban will take effect at 3:00 PM today – February 22 – on all our highways, except the Turnpike
✅Speed restrictions of 35 miles-per-hour will take effect at 3:00 PM today, February 22
✅NJ TRANSIT service will be suspended at 6:00 PM today, February 22, on all buses, light rail, and Access Link
✅State Emergency Operations Center will be staffed 24/7

The Board of Public Utilities is also working with utility providers to be ready for outages. Extra crews have come in from other states to assist. If your power goes out, please report it to your utility provider immediately.

Please take this storm seriously. Stay off the roads, keep your phones and devices charged, check in on your neighbors, stay inside, and stay updated.

We’ll keep monitoring the situation and I’ll continue to provide you updates throughout this storm and its aftermath.

Stay safe!

The Stanhope Department of Public Works is actively removing snow throughout Stanhope.

However the current snowfall rate is 2 inches per hour and roads are still treacherous. Residents are advised to refrain from non-essential travel.

In regard to the non-emergency line and some confusion around the notice on the borough website of it not being operational for a period of time.

Last Friday, November 21st, Sparta dispatch, which Stanhope uses as a shared service, notified the Stanhope Police that their telephone system was down. This system hosts our non-emergency phone line. With that system being down, no ETA on service restoration and the weekend where there is no one in the borough hall office, the notice was put up on the borough site.

911 calls were not affected by this outage and Stanhope area calls were still appropriately routed to Sparta dispatch transparently for callers.

This outage has since been resolved, and all phone line service is restored.

Here in Stanhope, we proudly recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusivity are vital to fostering safety and ensuring that our residents receive the best possible outcomes.

On March 25, 2025, the Stanhope Council adopted a new ordinance to update "Chapter 15: Fire Department," which had remained unchanged for 120 years. The outdated ordinance not only excluded women from volunteering but also lacked clear guidance on managing the Fire Department effectively.

I extend my gratitude to Mayor Wronko and Fire Chief Ellicott for their dedication to bringing this long-overdue change to fruition. I eagerly anticipate seeing our Fire Department reach a new level of excellence and service to our community.

It's no secret that the leaf pick up program this year has been frustrating. At the beginning of the season the leaf vacuum broke, the temporary solution of the DPW removing leaves with a front loader and dump truck slowly turned into the only option as the vendor has been unable to source the necessary John Deere parts for the repair.

Starting tomorrow and through next week a rental leaf vacuum will be on the streets continuing to pick up all outstanding piles. DPW is also continuing to work overtime to get caught up. All leaves will be picked up.

Moving forward the council has approved purchasing a replacement machine for the leaf pick up program next year.

Thank you to residents for your patience and thank you to our DPW workers for their continued hard work.

Today the members of the governing body, the administrator, and the engineer met with NJDOT, NJ Transit, and Lakeland Bus to discuss the Mid-Block crosswalk in front of the American Legion on Rt 183. As many residents know this has been a dangerous crosswalk where injuries and fatalities have occurred. The borough has made improvements in lighting the area as well as petitioned the state and county to address safety concerns since the road is owned by the state.

This meeting was the first step forward as we were able to bring all parties together on-site to discuss concerns and potential solutions for NJ DOT to improve the area to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
