A huge thank you to the Public Safety Pathway class at Lincoln County High School. This morning these students hosted breakfast for our on duty first responders. That kind of thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed. It means a lot when the next generation takes time to look after the people who are out there every day serving Lincoln County. These young students already understand what public service looks like. We appreciate you. Keep up the great work…the future looks bright.

Tonight, Firefighter Zach Nicholson represented Stanford at the Lexington 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Kroger Field. Twenty five years later, we still climb so those who ran toward the towers are never forgotten. Never Forget. 🇺🇸

You may notice contractors and Stanford Fire Department crews working on fire hydrants around the city through the end of October as we inspect, repair, replace parts, and paint them to keep our water supply ready for emergencies. Reliable fire hydrants are a critical part of fire protection for every neighborhood. Please give the crews room to work and use extra caution around job sites.

Stanford Fire Department supports the High Five Rural Traffic Safety initiative focused on Lincoln County. Ranking 50th statewide for the highest number of highway fatalities is not a good ranking for our community. Every one of us can help improve these numbers by buckling up every trip…seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect ourselves and our families. Let’s work together to keep our roads safer.

We’re proud to introduce a new recognition from the Stanford Fire Department…the Supporting Community Partner Award. This award is our way of saying thank you to the local businesses that go above and beyond to partner with us and help keep our community safer. Today we had the privilege of presenting the award to two outstanding partners:
Builders Supply – Thank you for donating tools for our new Man vs. Machine kit. Your support directly strengthens our ability to respond when every second counts.

Stanford Walmart – Thank you for your continued donations of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for our homeowner safety program, and for your partnership with our car seat program. Your generosity helps us protect families across Stanford.

These partnerships make a real difference. When local businesses step up alongside our firefighters, everyone in the community benefits. We are grateful for your support and look forward to continuing this important work together.

This evening we presented some well deserved awards recognizing outstanding performance, dedication, and partnership.

Unit Citation Awards went to Firefighter Connor Maples, Firefighter Tyler Bottoms, and Firefighter Caitlyn Mews for their outstanding performance, rapid response, and aggressive attack during a structure fire. Despite challenging conditions, their decisive actions quickly confined and extinguished the fire, preventing total loss of the property and minimizing further damage.

Above and Beyond Awards were presented to Firefighter Clint Daniels and Lieutenant Chuck Dorman for their unwavering dedication and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. Their selfless contributions truly make a difference in the Stanford Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Smith was honored with the Leroy “Skip” Lunsford Award. Kenny has served this department with dedication and distinction for 50 years, joining in 1976. This award named after a true leader and mentor whose impact still shapes this department.

We also presented a Partners in Protection Appreciation certificate to Stanford Police Department for the strong partnership we share every day.
Honored to serve alongside these professionals and grateful for the continued support of our community.

We've dedicated our Duty Room in memory of Mayor Dalton Miller. This joins the Day Room (Mayor Scottie Ernst), the Training Room (Asst. Chief Walter "Tom" Gehlhausen), and our station itself (Chief Leroy "Skip" Lunsford) as another space set aside to honor those who left a lasting mark on the Stanford Fire Department. We want to be sure their memory lives on. Grateful for the impact these public servants made.

Today is Pet Fire Safety Day (July 15) We want to remind everyone that our pets are family too.

Essential Fire Safety Tips: Use a free ASPCA pet alert sticker (order yours at secure.aspca.org/take-action/pet-safety-pack), include your pets in your family escape plan and know their hiding spots, confine them near entrance doors when home alone, and keep a pet emergency kit ready near an exit.

Let rescuers know pets are inside your home in the event of an emergency!
